Hi

Has anyone else ever struck the problem of being in Port on the National Holiday?

We are supposed to arrive in Athens on this date and every tour company I have been in contact with say everything is closed.

Just wondering what we might be able to do:confused:

Yes, but not in Athens. Had the same problem in Rome. Most venues were closed.

We had it last year in Paris but it didnt seem to be much of an issue all the tourist sites were open.

Did the cruise you were on have anything in the way of shore excursions?

We were there on election day--even the day before, many places closed early.

 

You'll find that the National Archaeology Museum and the Acropolis as well as the other antiquities sites will be closed. The Acropolis Museum "might" be open with limited hours, but will be crowded. Most of the shops and restaurants around Plaka will be open but through the rest of the city most will be closed other than at the larger hotels.

Is the Acropolis able to be seen from the outside at all? That is the one thing i really wanted to see.

Yes, it's huge. Find a nice hotel with a rooftop restaurant/bar that has a view and enjoy looking at it when it's lit up at night.

Also, things will be closed for 1/2 day until after 12:00 noon on Greek Orthodox Good Friday - May 3, 2013.

sadly we will only be there for the day so no night time viewing possible but i heard there is a hill somewhere close that you can get some good views from

1st May ALL museums and archaeological sites are closed!

 

You can see a view from Lycabettus hill but is a bit far away from Acropolis..
