Marriott on Canal Street

We will be staying at the Marriott on Canal St. Any input from others who have stayed there? Close to the French Quarter? Other interesting things around it? We have never been to New Orleans ( I know and we live in Texas) so we thought we would spend two nights there. Any not to be missed things? Thank you for any input. We will not have a car but will rent one if necessary.

Definitely within walking distance of the FQ and the Riverwalk. Close to Harrah's Casino and the Red Line streetcar is on Canal and only a couple of blocks from the Green Line.
