Hi

As you can see we are booked on the Gem this coming June. We have been on carnival five times and royal carribean once to Alaska. I was trying to avoid flying to Florida and half deposit founded good......so we booked ncl. Our last cruise was on the glory five nights to Canada this past June with our two younger kids. I noticed a couple cut backs this past June.

We are really excited about our cruise in June!! So tell me some things to look forward to..........

Thanks!!!

Sandi

Good food. Great entertainment. Rock climbing wall. Bowling. And lots of other fun stuff! If you're looking for specifics just ask, I'm sure that there are plenty of people just off the Gem that would like to share some of their exciting adventures with you. :)

Don't forget to join your roll call, many people there will have already sailed her and have ideas. Dh and I were on the Gem in January and have a great time!

Loved the Gem but the Port Canveral/ Bahamas run is not great, in my opinion. In PC they have a shuttle that takes you to Ron Johns/Cocoa Beach and Walmart. It is a great cruise if you like staying on the ship.

Hi

Yes. Ports aren't the best but ncl doesn't go out of fla in summer. I do like Nassau. We have sailed out of port canveral twice on the glory. Everything I have read about the gem is that it is a great ship. So that will be part of the adventure:)

Thank you to everyone!

Sandi

Much depends on what you are looking to do on board and in port. We have always enjoyed dining on the ship, and though we like the buffet, most dinners and most breakfasts are in the restaurants. We especially like the specialty restaurants, the atmosphere and service seem better, and you can select and reserve them in advance, depending on your personal preferences. That said, others don't see the need to spend extra money.

In port, we like the beach, so have enjoyed our couple of stops at the private island, and it has now been refurbed, so read up on what others have said and recommend on the board and reviews. Same for Nassau, as there is lots of discussion on the board and on the Bahamas section under Ports where you can check out beach options, including some free ones and some near the port. We haven't beached in Port Canaveral, but did go to Disney, twice. One we took the Excursion, but that limits your time, and the other we rented a car. That worked great, but you need to be comfortable and familiar with the driving there, as you surely do not want to miss the boat!!

We love NCL's freestyle dining, relaxed atmosphere, good food, and the fabulous officers & staff! We have sailed Carnival before, and were very pleasantly surprised by the small number of announcements and lack of pushy selling of alcohol, bingo, store items, etc on NCL, compared to Carnival. Sure there was some of that, but nothing intrusive or over the top. My husband & I even commented several times on this. We loved the NCL Spirit so much last year, that we are sailing on the NCL Star in November and taking 13 other NCL newbies with us! And NCL's staff is the best there is, bar none! If you enjoy the option of eating when you want, where you want, with whom you want, you, too, will love NCL! We also found that we enjoyed having different waiters each meal, since it gave us so many more opportunities to talk to them about their families and cultures. In all, our first NCL cruise was our best cruise ever, and we can't wait to sail again....in 80 days!

My daughter and I cruised for the first time last June as a graduation present to her and birthday present to me. We were on the Gem. We loved it. My biggest fear was that my daughter would be bored hanging out with her mom for a week. But she wasn't.

My daughter loved all of the shows that we went to and the game shows. We loved the freestyle cruising and just playing each day by ear. We stayed on the ship in Port Canaveral and used that day to get a massage at the spa (discount for being a port day) and dinner at Teppanyaki. In Nassau we did the Atlantis waterpark and had a blast!

We only ate in the MDR once. Food was good. Most days we would have a late breakfast, then grab lunch at the buffet that was poolside, which we also thought had great food! We would go to the game shows and performances each night and then go to the Blue Lagoon for a late dinner. I think we ate there 4 times.

My daughter loved the slot pull and cabin crawl that about 20 of us from the roll call did. And she also was happy with the fact that she won almost $300 in the casino on penney slots. She told me yesterday that she's ready to cruise again.

Just wanted to say I think that's great and wish you many happy mother/daughter cruises in the future! My Mom and I (who now live on opposite sides of the country and are early 60's and early 30's respectively) do at least a small girls trip most years, and a couple of them have been cruises. They make some of the best experiences and memories :)

Thank you! We really enjoyed it and hopefully it won't be the last time we go.
