Northern Aurora Posted September 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2012 The port itself is very industrial. It is not as if you can walk to a hotel and find a nice beach. There was a very nice shopping area directly at the port with a number of stalls and handcrafts. We took a ship sponsored trip to Antigua. The name of the excursion was something along the lines of "Antigua on Your Own." We were given an orientation, a simple map and told what time to return to the visitor's center for the return drive to the port. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Tours etc More to see in Antigua. However, distance and transportation an be a problem. Take a ship's tour, such as "Antigua on Your Own". Finding your way around in Antigua is very simple; so you don't need a guide.

Tours etc Take a ship's excursion to Antigua as it's quite a ways from the port. I say to take a ship's tour because our bus was late getting back. There were 2 other tours after us due to traffic and "single lane" roads. I couldn't handle the stress if it was a private tour.
Rare Azulann Posted September 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Absolutely take a ship tour because of the variables of the time needed to get anywhere on the two lane highway. If you are on a ship tour, the ship will not leave without you.:)
