Extra VIFP Day Sailed for Isaac Extended Cruise

I was checking to make sure my points for my 5 day Elation cruise had posted to my VIFP point total. Since Isaac turned our 5 day into a 6 day I was pleasantly surprised to see I had been credited with 6 days instead of 5. I am one of the "Milestoners" who is not quite Diamond yet so I was happy for the extra day/point.

I have one cruise shortened by one day I got one day less credit, and then the Ike Conquest cruise which was extended .. and I got extra (but lost my car, so believe me not worth it).

No surprise to me.

Im not sure how I feel about those whose cruise was shortened by 1 day thru no fault of their own getting 1 day less.

congrats op, that's a nice little bonus there :)

on the flip side though i think that kinda sucks for those who have their history shortened as you stated through no fault of their own. and it'd be a big PITA if it conflicted with the next 'level' either on the cruise in question or in the future in my opinion.

i think in these cases they should extend the extra day to those who have cruises extended (through no fault of their own) or those whose cruises are shortened (likewise). that seems like the fair thing to do.

Someone asked a question on a previous thread how it worked... I hadnt looked to be honest.

My 4 day Ecstasy I got 3 days credit.. which was like 2 years ago. I think that is kind of unfair. People booked it when a cruise was a cruise was a cruise.. then not only do they change it to days which hurt those who did short cruises in the past.. but they subtract the day where they were late boarding the ship.

I can see where the OP would be thrilled, with a extra day loyalty they didnt pay for... but those on the next cruise I bet wouldnt be as thrilled.

the 4th of july weekend cruise...? i almost booked that, when a cruise was a cruise, in part for that reason. i'd be a little miffed if a day was subtracted, but not so much since i planned to book it for the rock bottom rates, with knowledge of that... IF i had booked it in advance and they shortened my cruise, only then to subtract, i think that's unfair.

adding for cruises which are extended such as the op, i can understand. those people are adversely affected as well (flights, work, other travel plans) so i can see that. but it oughta go both ways imo.

I do agree if you book a 4 day and it turns into a 3 you really should be credited for 4. Just a guess but I think probably Carnival bean counters look at it as revenue days. Wouldn't be quite as attractive to call their Loyalty Program, Days You Spend, Days You Don't. DYSDYD doesn't sound nearly as catchy as VIFP.

We were fortunate that we drove to NOLA and are semi retired/self employed so the only thing it really cost me was the extra I paid my dog/housesitter. Thankfully I had already warned her it might happen so she was prepared to stay the extra day and 1/2. They did not charge for the extra day's tips, but I went down to guest services and had them added. If the crew was going to have to take care of me another day, I was going to make sure they got tipped for it.

So all it really cost me was the extra tips, the dog sitter-----and oh yeah what I lost in the casino that extra night. Maybe that's why they gave me the extra day:).

My gosh, you lost your car while on a cruise- that wan't good. So did the hurricane demolish it for you? Sorry to hear that.

We had a very late (after 8 PM) boarding cruise out of Galveston (sp) once, but they still gave us all our vifp points.

From VIFP faq

http://www.carnival.com/loyalty/faqs.aspx#q-1197306

If a cruise is cut short or extended for reasons out of the guests control, how many points will the guests earn since we are basing it on the actual number of days sailed?

As a gesture of goodwill we will never decrease the number of cruise days earned as a result of extenuated circumstances. In cases were an additional day is added we will increase the number of cruise days.

HI Bonnie!!!!Beth here. Sure enjoyed meeting you & Larry. Two weeks ago we were getting on the ship. Fun times even with all the rocking. I was a;so surprised about the extra day on VIFP, but did feel sorry for the one boarding after us. Beth

Having a hard time with this one only because you paid for a 5 day and got the 6th day for free and they gave you credit for it BUT if you win a cruise they don't give you credit for those days???? Is there something wrong with this picture??? Either everything should be credited or not...

Not sure why you would even care about someone getting one or two day credit because of something out of their control.

It makes perfect sense to me, if you get a free cruise, that is a perk right there, why should you get credit for winning something.

Been meaning to email y'all. Glad so see you made it home safe & sound. Hope you enjoyed your visit with your son. Besides lots of rain and Larry (aka leadfoot) getting a speeding ticket on the way home we had a good drive home. We really enjoyed meeting you and Bob and sharing our Hurricane Cruise with y'all.

We're heading up to St Louis in 2 weeks to stay a couple of nights and pick up my free cruise certificate compliments of Harrah's and NCL. It's been a few years since I have been on an NCL cruise, so for this Carnival girl it's going to be different. Probably going to use the free cruise to sail out of NOLA in January cause airfare to Miami is sky high in January.

Hope to cruise with you and Bob again in the near future.

Personally, I think its also a perk to get an extra day of cruising :) I know I would be thrilled to be out on the sea an extra day...

Well rules are rules so I understand they don't give credit for "non revenue" fares, and should I ever be that lucky, I wouldn't balk.

However, keep in mind the cost of the fare is what I spend the least amount of money on while cruising. I don't think it's quite fair that those that win don't get credit for the money spent on excursions, bar bill, casino, onboard shopping, steakhouse dinners. Heck, when you consider my S&S bill is over 4X my fare, they should be giving me the fare for free every time! LOL

Then why is my 4 day Ecstasy cruise shown as 3 days credited??

Are you saying that I can contact someone and get the day added?

To answer the question above.. yes it was the July 4th Ecstasy cruise where there was some hurricane that delayed it by one day. you can see they gave me 3 days for it.

maybe because you booked it with knowledge that it would be a 3 day / after the point they knew it would be a 3 day.

i'd still contact them anyway, curious to see what response you get.

who should I contact.. I will contact them. Im already unhappy with their conversion to be honest.

I expected past cruises booked when a cruise was a cruise to be treated the way RCL treated them giving them all a equal value of 7 days retroactively.
