· This is a great sized room for two people.

· Plenty of places to sit.

· Coffee machine creates great tasting coffee.

· Murphy bed and pull-out couch.

· You could hear some light noise from the deck above when the chairs were moved.

· Jogging track is not above this room.

The Deck:

· Deck is huge.

· It’s uncovered and hot when in direct sunlight.

· Lightly hear the music from the 13th pool deck. Hating loud music, this was a terrific place to have a beer in the late afternoon.

· Very little wind when ship is moving.

· This deck is second of this type from the front of the ship. The first deck in line may have more wind.

· People on deck 13 could see you if they really wanted but they would have to work at it.

· No smoke issues.

· The panel between balconies can open if your family has multiple rooms.

Our butler found out that we were celebrating our 22nd anniversary on this cruise. We returned to our room one night to this cake and lots of towel animals. Our butler (Roel) and room steward (Renato) really went above and beyond to insure that we were treated special. The room was always clean and Roel and Renato were always around.

And Finally….

· I have turned into an NCL cheerleader. We have nothing to complain about. NCL really fits our style.

· Getting on the ship was easy and fast.

· We think that the food was always good but we thought the food on this cruise improved on past cruises.

· When ordering the Blue Lagoon Wings, order them extra crispy with the sauce on the side. (I am not a wing snob) This way you can control your sauce distribution.

· The salad in the Blue Lagoon was fantastic.

· We sailed from Boston and believe that 50% of the people on our cruise were from the greater Boston area. These people love to party and really know how to party hard. Fun cruise.

· Getting off the ship took some time but we easily made our noon flight home. $20 taxi ride to the airport with plenty of cabs available.

· Bermuda was the most relaxed cruise we have ever taken. We will do this cruise again.

· Extreme Vegas show was the best of the week for us. We even attended the noon show on the last day of the cruise and enjoyed this show also.

· Paul Scally was our Cruise Director and he had an Adults Only show in the Stardust Theater. Very funny and slightly blue.

· On a cruise one year ago, our DOA butler was Mark. It was great seeing Mark again and he escorted off the ship one day from the 12th floor to the gangway. Not only did he remember us, he wanted to assist us once again. NCL really does hire good people.

· We didn’t think that our suite category of SD was allowed reserved seats in the Stardust but our butler always escorted us to the reserved area. We never sat in the row reserved for the Owner’s suites but it was great showing up to the late show just a few minutes before it started with great seats

· We had been invited to the Captain’s Reception on past cruises but never attended. This cruise we attended and had a nice time casually meeting and talking to the crew. We will attend if we are ever invited again.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. The suite looks great. I was in 12016, the Family suite without the balcony on 8-3. The room looks the same but the added balcony looks great. We had Mark as our butler for the week. We thought he was the best that we have ever had.

Thanks for posting all the great photos!! We will be in an SD cabin in October to Canada and so happy to get an excellent look at it. The stairs/elevator is near some of these rooms; ever any problem with noise? Glad you enjoyed the cruise; went to Bermuda last summer (also on Dawn) and loved it!

When we were on in June I asked Virginia about the seating as the port side balcony (one lane so to speak) was marked as reserved. She said she reserves that area for all suite folks. The front two seating areas are reserved for the OS/DOS/GV. She would sometimes put the GV folks on the starboard side if the port side front sections were kind of full.

On the Star, reserved seating was only for OS/DOS/GV and it seems to vary sometimes by ship/concierge from what I've read.

The stairs were right outside of our door. We never had any noise issue outside of a few late night drunks that walk down the hall yelling at each other at 2am. That happens in any hallway on the ship.

Our next cruise is a 2 week holiday in 2013 on the Dawn in an SJ suite. With it being colder out and with so many ports, we were not sure that we would use a balcony much. I hope you have a great trip and I would love to read about it when you return.

Great review! Thanks for sharing. Any pictures of the common area on the ship you would like to share? How were the seas?

The seas were calm both ways. Smoothest cruise we have ever had. We've had plenty of rough seas on our past vacations.

This was our second trip on the Dawn and fourth on this type of ship if you count our two cruises on the Star so I didn't take any interior ship pictures. :(

We thought the ship was in great shape. They were painting the murals on the seventh deck during our cruise. They always seem to be painting something. :)

We're actually in the room right next to where you were, so it's good to know there's no problem with elevators/stairs. As for using the balcony in cooler weather, I plan to get some hot chocolate and a blanket to sit out there and enjoy. Going to be getting chilly mid October going from Boston-Quebec-Boston, but I love having a balcony (and the suite makes it even better)!

Was there a DVD player in the room? We are on the Dawn for Thanksgiving in an SD suite and was told there was, but didn't see it in your pictures.

I didn't see one but we did see a catalog of movies that were available for us to borrow. Not sure how that would exactly work.

Does anyone know....the Family Suites without balcony.... are they bigger rooms because the "balcony" is simply part of the room, or are they the same size - but with no balcony?

Just curious. I'm in one, in 3 weeks... so I'll know then, I suppose...

By looking at deck plans, the cabin space appears to be the same. The ship bumps out at the point where the balcony suites begin, making room for a balcony. We stayed in an SJ last fall, but never had an opportunity to peek into one of the balcony suites.
