Lanyard

I will be getting a lanyard for my S&S card but had a couple of questions from some of you experienced cruisers. First, would it be a pain if I got a lanyard with a small clear pouch on it where I could keep my card? Also, would it be of benefit to have a retractable lanyard? Thanks!

I vote for neither. I want one that I can punch a hole in it and it is NOT in a pouch. If you put it in a pouch, then you need two hands to remove it and use it in your door.

I often am carrying things and only have one hand.

desk or casino will punch a hole in it.

I would not care if it is retractable or not. I have a wrist one that is coiled that stretches out if I need it to.

Get one you can punch a hole in :)

I got a pirate one from Party City for a dollar and I found a Hello Kitty one for my other friend :)

I use a retractable one for work so I can get into my building and I would not want to use it for cruising.

BUT that is me, if you want one with a pouch and all, that's ok.

i've never liked or used the around-the-neck lanyards, or the around-the-wrist ones either... always thought they were kinda tacky...

not sure if i was paying attention last time, but the ones they give out now in the casino, on triumph at least, are more like this:

you can clip the thing together so you can put it around your neck if you want...

but, much better, you can clip it to your belt loop and just put it in your pocket. this was genius. and the coil type attachment had enough give to reach the slot machine, or even across a bar station to the register. and not tacky imo... first time i've ever used a lanyard. no pouch!

I had one with a plastic pouch and DH had a hole. He always ended up opening the room because it was handier. I only liked the pouch so I could carry some money in it to gamble. We will probably do the same next trip.

I do the same thing. Mine has a zipper compartment with enough room to put in a tube of lip gloss and mints along with my few dollar bills for the penny slots. I do not like the coil around the wrist, too bulky for me. My DH also usually opens the door but it isn't difficult to take the card out of the holder.

Another vote for the casino coil lanyard. Onshore I like to hook it into my purse. Makes it much easier to find.

At times I've taken off the coil and just used the clip.

I get a flat dollar store flashlight to hook on my lanyard. Never know when the ship will go dark.

My mom and I got one of these types when we were on the Liberty. Loved it!

No pouch...too hard to get out your card when you holding all of your other stuff at your door. My lanyard has one of those plastic locking pieces so I can easily detach it from the lanyard itself for 'pinging' my way back onboard or for the bartender:D without taking the whole lanyard off over my ponytail.

I've got one with the detachable clip thing so I can remove it to ding back onto the ship, etc. I do the hole-punch thing, but also keep a plastic pouch on it for some $$$, but I don't put my S & S card in the pouch. I generally use my Georgia Bulldog lanyard GO DAWGS! LOL However, last year, we had lanyards that we gave away at our meet & greet, so I had a sparkly purple beaded one, it was great!

I like the idea of using of one from your favorite sports teams or your state. If you keep your sail and sign card on a lanyard it is easier to keep track of it in the cabin ;)

Yeah but if you leave it laying around some insane UK fan might find it and mistakenly toss it in the garbage! J/k wink wink!

I bought the red beaded lanyard they sell in the gift shop and love it! Simply its pretty and looks more like fun jewelry. I also prefer to keep my card in the plastic pouch because I discovered the drink coupons that you can pre-purchase last cruise and I was able to keep a couple of coupons with me for when I wanted to get a drink.

I use Lanyards that I get for free at conferences. I have a couple that have a clear pouch with a ziplock top that keeps your card safe from falling out. I'd try to find one like that if possible. At ports I stick some emergency cash in the pouch too-a $100 bill or 2 and wear it inside my shirt.Have never had to use the money but if I was in an accident-problem on shore I'd want some extra cash . On one cruise a family was involved in a taxi accident and missed the ship. I always have some cash and credit card with me but I think alittle extra cash would be good too. I wear a shirt that can hide it too from view.

I know some people don't think they are "classy" but we use a lanyard with a plastic pocket up front has a zippered compartment behind it to hold cash.

Really don't care if it looks tacky, I won't see these people after the week is over anyway and I wear a lanyard with name bage at work, so no difference really. It's convienient and works for us.

We do transfer our cards and whatever else we need for elegant evenings into purses and pockets though. We don't wear them to the dining room.

You can go to the casino cage and they will give you a free lanyard and

Punch a hole in your card for you. All done and not a nickel spent!

For a long time, Carnival's casino's would hand out the stretchable, slinky type lanyards. The last two years, they've been cheap plastic rope that won't stretch out. Fortunately, I still have my stretchable lanyards from prior cruises and I always take one along for my S&S card.
