Can Carnival pull the drink program?

Does anyone know if Carnival can pull the drink package program at any time or do they have the trial dates locked in until a certain date? We're booking the Breeze over a land all inclusive based on the fact we can purchase the drink package. If they pulled it off the ship (like they're doing on the Spirit) it would make my friends very upset with me for convincing them to book the all inclusive cruise over the AI land vacation.

They can change anything whenever they want, with no notice at all.

Thanks, I'm a little worried after reading they pulled it from the Spirit. It seemed they were expanding the program quickly and I thought it would only expand. Guess I was wrong and have good reason to play it safe and book the land AI. :(

I think the reason they are pulling it from the Spirit is that the Spirit is going to be based in Australia. Breeze is still based in USA.

That said, they can change/alter any program at anytime, just like any business. Just look at the airlines and baggage fees!

It was announced today that Carnival will be pulling the program from the Spirit when the ship sails to Australia.

I read that as you can no longer bring wine on and do the bon voyage liquor. I didn't realize they rolled the bar program out to any ships in the Stsates. I see I was worng.

I do wish Carnival would indicate the direction they are planning to go with the drink plan. A lot of folks really want to know.

I agree! It's going to the difference between a lot of people (myself included) booking a cruise or not. It would be helpful if they came out and told us the program would be on a trial basis for the first 6 months. year, etc. and gave a firm date when the trial period ended.

I would venture to guess they're not pulling the Awesome Bar program from any ships just yet (less the Spirit). The reason they are doing in on the Spirit is because of rules/laws in Australia. They have different ways of doing things, including the tipping issue. Different country, different rules.

Thanks, that puts me at ease a little. I can't imagine they would pull it from the Breeze after only a few cruises. :)

The Liquor Laws in Australia are much more restrictive than in the States, so they don't want unlimited liquor flowing to any pax - they figure if you have to buy each drink they are less likely to run into trouble

My guess is they will also be hyper-vigilant about smuggling as well when the Spirit reaches OZ

If you guys drink as much as all my Newfoundland friends do, Carnival might just have to cancel after your week!

......just after they file Chapter 11!:D

I lived in Sydney a couple of their winters (summer in the US), and I found Aussies to drink much more than Americans.

It was mentioned they are adding more draught beer selections as I think the Aussies enjoy a good brewski. I wish they'd do that on the US ships and get rid of the BudMillOors swill altogether... :D

What is your source?

John Healds Blog....I went back to see if perhaps I misread and I did...BUT....very limited smoking...(maybe just the lido deck?) I do not know and he does not specify. This is what he says:

10. Smoking: We have made some modifications to the smoking policy on board Carnival Spirit sailing from Australia. There will be no smoking in the casino or the staterooms (including balconies). This is in accordance with the Australian marketplace.

FROM http://www.carnival.com.au/ :

---

What is your smoking policy?

A: Similar to Australian law, Carnival do not allow smoking in enclosed areas. This applies to all interior areas of the ship, and includes your Stateroom balcony. There are designated, signposted areas for smokers and we would ask that you respect this policy and only smoke in those areas.

---

They are also charging for room service and bar snacks!

They will not be able to take wine on board also.

We could not get bar snacks on the Liberty last week.

I don't think Australia have more strict alcohol rules. In fact, Carnival Spirit is lowering the drinking age to 18+, in line with alcohol laws of Australia! We do have Responsible Service of Alcohol laws (basically means you can't serve drunk people). But I am going to assume you have something like that over in USA too?

I do expect though, that us Aussies will be paying higher prices for our alcohol onboard, and dropping the carryon of 1 bottle is just more profit for the Company.

Hi Aussie:o:o Why is it being said "In accordance with Australia?"

This is telling us Americans (I think) that you do not want alcohol, smoking, gambling....etc. I would think "People are People" no matter where you are from....so this makes no sense at all to me.

I cannot believe that you have to pay for room service and cannot bring on a bottle of wine. As you said....more money for them.
