Sue's Mom Posted May 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Can anyone tell me what the temperatures will be like in the Caribbean from Nov. 26 to mid December. What should we pack in the way of cool weather/warm weather clothes? Thanks.
cmason Posted May 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2004 The Caribbean is attractive year around because the temperatures are warm year around. Check out a few weather sites like www.wunderground.com or weather.com. JanetMarie Posted May 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2004 One of the weeks that we like to cruise is that cusp period between low and high value season, typically around the first week or two of December. That being said, hurricane season has passed in the Caribbean. The weather, we find, is always warm and balmy in the Caribbean. OUR NEXT ONWARD JOURNEY! momofmeg Posted May 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2004 We did western ittenary on Inspiration last Dec. We checked and our ports,Cozumel, Grand cayman, Belize and Cost Maya all averaged in the low 90's for Dec. Unfortunately a cold front came from the night we left Grand Cayman so that was the only day we had 90 temps. I don't think it made 70 the rest of the week. I about froze to death. So take a few pairs of slacks and not just shorts. Bring a sweather or light jacket-then you have them just in case. Rare geoherb Posted May 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 14, 2004 December is our favorite time to cruise to the Caribbean. The weather has always been warm except for last year. We had great weather at Princess Cays, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, but it was a little cool in Costa Maya. It was also cool the day we got back to Fort Lauderdale. When we've had rain on these cruises, it's only been short showers--not all day.

Kuyaba Posted May 15, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Last Dec. 5, we did a Southern Caribbean cruise. The weather was wonderful. Very warm, but not very humid. We were in the water in St. Thomas, St. Martin, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados and the water wasn't cold, just cool. Took about 5 seconds to get used to after you jump in. It was warmer than swimming pools are here (in Maryland) in August. I don't remember how the temps were at night, but I froze in the dining rooms and needed a sweater. dgebhart Posted May 15, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I am never so worried about the temps outside as I am the inside of the ship. We took one cruise that the ship was in the '60s and I had not brought anything warm. So now, silly as it seems, I also take a sweat shirt or sweater or nice leisure activity for night. Also found out it is nice to have some cotton socks in case the feet get cold. As for as the cabin you can always get an extra blanket or pillow from the room steward. TheParrotHeads Posted May 16, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 16, 2004 IMHO I don't think the overall cost of the trip is worth the weather problems from October-January. We did our first cruise near the latter part of January and would never do it again, UNLESS we absolutely needed to get away from the horrific winters of the NE. The nights were cold and the waters not to our liking. We were both left feeling like we were short changed from what we were really wanting: constant hot weather and water and ALL THE TIME. We only had about 4 really warm days. The first one was too cold leaving Miami and the last one was equally as disappointing since we were heading back north. Now, it's not by any means cold..lol..but do not go expecting every day to be 85-90 and nights to be 70-80. Also, if you don't mind the waters a little cooler either then you'll be just fine. Again, just MHO. JanetMarie Posted May 16, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Yes, I agree with one of the above posts - take a sweater for the dining room! No matter what time of the year you cruise, it's always cold, IMO. OUR NEXT ONWARD JOURNEY!
imsulin Posted May 16, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 16, 2004 One thing to keep in mind at that time of year is that there will be fewer daylight hours.
Sue's Mom Posted May 18, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted May 18, 2004 "Fewer daylight hours" - hmmm, I had thought of that. Pity because I love long, warm, light evenings. I'm sure it will be warmer than in the UK, though!
imsulin Posted May 18, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I've taken a few cruises out of New Orleans and Port Canaveral in December, and it was pretty cold in those ports, so we had to wear jeans/sweaters at Sailaway. It took about a day of getting down into the Caribbean before things warmed up. What is your itinerary? In all our ports (Cozumel, Jamaica, Grand Cayman) it was very warm - to the point of being hot.
