Angkor Wat Overland from Diamond

Has anyone ever taken the Angkor Wat overland trip from the Diamond Princess Asia cruise? We are interested in their thoughts and experience.

We did an Angkor Wat overland Private tour (not with Princess) while on the Diamond in April. It was FABULOUS!! We also paid more than 1/2 the price. If you want more information send me an email at tjcballeroatroadrunnerdotcom. Replace the at with @ and dot with .

We'd highly recommend the company.

If your cruise is starting or ending in Thailand or Singapore, I suggest you do a trip by yourself at the start or end of the cruise.

We ended up have a great two full days private tour with four of us. And it was relatively inexpensive.

For the contact information for our tour guide, e-mail me caribill at yahoo dot com

Our itinerary:

Day 1: Transportation to hotel by tour guide

Day 2:

Morning: Angkor Thom (South Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, Royal Palace, Phimeanakas, Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper King)

Afternoon: Angkor Wat and sunset on Phnom Bakheng

Day 3:

Before sunrise: To Angkor Wat to see the sunrise there, then back to hotel for breakfast

Morning: Thommanon, Chau Say Thevoda, Ta Keo, Ta Prohm, Banteay Kdei, Srah Srang (Artificial Lake) and Prasat Kravan.

Afternoon: Pre Rup or Banteay Samre and Banteay Srey

Late afternoon: Transportation to airport by tour guide

I spent six full days in Siem Reap (center of the Angkor area) last year and it was not too long. There's so much to see, it's so damn hot, and unless you're really insecure about independent travel, the extensive tourist infrastructure makes springing for a tour unnecessary. Just bring a guidebook, find a hotel, hire a driver, and off you go, at your own pace and able to dodge the crowds.

As with Machu Picchu, a hurried ship's tour is better than nothing. But if you're truly interested in the many wonders of Angkor, you can do better.

Thanks to everyone for replies. This is a tour that is in the middle of the cruise. It starts in Ho Chi Min, then flies us back to Singapore in two days to meet the ship. We would have preferred to do this after disembarking in Bangkok but can't stay on.

Cruzgal53, I did try to email you, but it was returned. Did you do a private tour then catch up to the ship later? I wasn't aware you could do this.

Thanks for any help.
