Cozumel tour

We have been to Cozumel twice. The first time we took an island tour that took as to several spots around the island including a shopping area, the beach for pictures (not swimming), and a tequila "factory". (The tequila is not made there, but they give you history, process, and lots of samples. VERY good tequila!) After the tour they dropped us off for more shopping and eating and gave us a coupon for a restaurant. They told us that we had to be back by a specific time to take the bus back to the port, or we would have to walk or take a taxi back.

The second time, we shared a ride with the piano bar guy to the main shopping area, walked around for a bit, then took another taxi to the tequila factory.

Without knowing anything about your interests, budget and limitations, very hard to recommend anything for you.

Have you read thru the excursions the cruise line offers? What ones interest you?

You might want to do some reading over on the Cozumel board, here:

I guess our answer to your question is a question......"what do you want to do ashore?" For example, we were recently in Cozumel and decided we simply wanted to relax in a beach chair and do some snorkeling. Rather then spend money on various overpriced excursions we simply took an inexpensive taxi to a dive shop near Dzul Ha where they let us use beach chairs all day for free as long as we bought some drinks (much cheaper then on the ship). Since we had our own snorkel gear we did not have to spend any money renting equipment. One warning about snorkeling on Cozumel is that many of the best areas (like where we were) have a pretty strong current so inexperienced folks need to be very cautious and perhaps ask some of the more experienced folks (usually at the same site) for advice. \

If you want to see decent Mayan Ruins you will have to spend some real money since this involves a ferry over to Playa del Carmen and a bus ride (which can be a very long and expensive day if you decide to go all the way to Chitzen Itsa.
