Getting from FLL to Miami - Tri Rail?

Has anyone taken the Tri Rail from Ft. Lauderdale airport to Miami airport?

If so, how was it? Price, convenient, etc.

I know from Miami we will need to take a taxi to get to port.

Just was wondering if it would be cheaper to rent a car one way from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami?

Also, we will need to get back to Ft. Lauderdale after the cruise....so this will help in our decisions.

Thanks!

They were doing lots of construction in Miami so things may have changed, but this did involve a shuttle from FLL to the rail station, a train ride, and then another shuttle to get to the MIA airport. Here's link with more info: http://www.tri-rail.com/

If all you are trying to do is to get from FLL to POM that's a lot of hassel to get to Miami and then take a $24+tip cab ride to the port.

- A one way rental car from FLL to MIA is likely the cheapest way to get there - National, ALamo & Thrifty share a free shuttle between MIA and POM.

- A taxi will run $85+ for the 40 or so minute drive

- QLS transportation (www.qualitylimoservice.com ), SAS (www.ridesas.com) and Go Airport Shuttle (http://goairportshuttle.com/) are FLL based shuttle services with prices starting at $15+ per person each way - yes, they can take you from POM back to FLL after your cruise.

Good luck! :)

  • 2 weeks later...
Check out this shuttle. http://ridesas.com/

We have used SAS for years but never again. Last week, shuttle picked us up late, and driver could not find other hotels. 45 passenger bus, way too much luggage on & off, had had to totally unload trailer for each ship. We were the last ship.

Driver got lost, and drove around aimlessly looking for hotels. Finally passengers googled directions for him.

Loyal customers once, but no more!

Why not save yourself a big hassle, enjoy your vacation and rent a town car?:)

So, if you get a cab from Ft. Lauderdale to pier it will be more than $65.00 because it is farther, correct? Think a shuttle company may be the way to go.

Taxi from FLL airport to POM is closed to $85+ -- not a bad option for 4 travelling together, but a pre-arranged shuttle will save you some buck$. ;)

Do they have taxis that can take more than 4 people and if so would it still be the same fare? We have a group of 20. Maybe it would be cheaper to fit people in taxis rather than a shuttle?

There are some minivan and SUV style cabs at the same price as a regualr cab, but it will still be a squeeze to get more than 4-5 plus bags into each cabs; you are unlikely to find 4-5 of these in a row when you come out of the airport, which means waiting. :(

With 20 - arriving at the same time? - you should get a discount from SAS, QLS or Go Airport Shuttle that will bring the fares down to about $13 per person each way or less. You might also check with some of the limo operators - Holland Limo and Larry's Limo -- who may be able to offer you a deal. Good luck! :)

We are flying into FLL and staying overnight in Miami prior to our departure from POM the next day. Will SAS transfer us from FLL to a hotel in Miami rather than the port? (Anyone have a review of the Miami Marriott Airport?)

Thanks!
