Rare Got2Cruise Posted January 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Hi, we booked our first River Cruise! Our itinerary is Paris/Normandy and our cruiseline is Avalon. Any advice you may offer River Cruise newbies would be appreciated. If you have specific advice towards Avalon or Paris that would be even more appreciated. Thank you. (We always book inside cabins on our regular cruises so I booked an "E" cabin on this cruise. I am sure it will be fine. We will use the pubic areas frequently)
beverlyjack Posted January 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Check out our blog/trip report on the Grand Circle Paris to Normandy cruise. It is a different company, ship and cruise, but the ports of call are basically the same. We took the cruise in March of 2012. It is http://jackthetravelingman-seine.blogspot.com. We loved the trip. Rare franski Posted January 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Congrats!!! Paris/Normandy (with Uniworld) was our 1st river cruise - and we are now hooked... We usually book Aquarium Class (ie: lowest category) - and are very happy with that. We did book a French balcony when we cruised the Danube (Budapest to Nuremberg...) - and it was enjoyable, but haven't felt the need to spend the extra money again. We would sooner put the extra dollars towards another trip!! One suggestion for Paris is to go the Orangerie to see Monet's original waterlily canvases. It is a wonderful thing to see after you have seen his house and studio in Giverny. Are you spending any extra time in France - either before or after your cruise? Rare Got2Cruise Posted January 6, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Yes, we are spending two full days in Paris prior to the cruise. After I see which excursion we will be doing directly through the ship, I can better plan my time. Congrats!!! Paris/Normandy (with Uniworld) was our 1st river cruise - and we are now hooked...
