Wonderful Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

Strømma has a combined bus and boat ticket.

Right now I'm asking around on Facebook, email etc to see which tour companies will serve the cruise terminal.

All of them served the old one in the Freeport so I would assume that they also will serve the new cruise terminal.

As i recall the Netto Bådene has a taped voice where Stromma has a real guide onboard.

Netto Bådene isn´t covered if it should rain.

This was not true at least last summer when I visited Copenhagen. Both companies did have live commentary on board and there were vessels with and without cover running for both companies. The biggest differences seemed to be the price and that Strömma had slightly more frequent departures.

According to Netto Bådenes website the boats are only covered when the water level is low enough so the boats can pass under the bridges.

So maybe it was the case when you took a trip, I don't know.

But I apologize for the wrong information about the guides.

Danish Viking, First of all thank you so much for being available to answer everyone's questions. Your help is invaluable. I have spent hours searching the internet trying to determine which cruise terminal the Royal Princess will be at on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Rick Steves gives detailed information on how to get to the city from each of the cruise terminals but I have no idea where we will be docking. I am hopeful you can help.

I've been searching for some suggestions for our disembarkation day in CPH. We will be on the Royal Princess when she docks on 6/3/14 at Pier 330 in theory at 6 or 7 AM. Our flight to London is at 2 PM. Assuming we need to be at the airport at 11:30 or noon, this leaves us a few hours to spend in town...or not?

We've not booked a ship's transfer, and were hoping to use public transportation (that's a separate question - whether the bus/train will be feasible) or a taxi to the central train station, leave the bags & do "one last thing". If you had, say 3 hours to spend in central Copenhagen, what do you suggest? one last coffee & Danish? We plan to do a walking tour or HOHO/boat tour and hit a few of the major sights, in our 1 1/2-2 days prior to leaving CPH.

Thank you for your suggestions & this useful forum.

Here's the deal for the Copenhagen experts who can help me. I'm cruising out of Copenhagen on the NCL Star on 06 June and returning on 15 June. I've figured out a lot of the logistics. I am staying at a hotel 2 metro stops from the airport and arriving from Paris around noon on Thursday 05 June. So no jet lag. My current plan is to buy the 24 hour Copenhagen pass which I think is Dkr 80. Okay that afternoon, as I've figured out, I can take the metro to I forget the name of the station (it's not in front of me) switch to the 26 bus to go to the Little Mermaid area, bus #26 back to Central Station, a few hours on Thursday evening at Tivoli, airport train from Central station switching back to the metro at the apirport back to my hotel. Doesn't seem all that bad for the one day I have.

Now Friday, the day of the cruise. Again mapping everything out, it's the Metro back to the staton where I catch the different #26 bus to Freeport (my ship is leaving from the new terminal which I think is convenient to the last stop of the bus at the UNICEF building or something like that. But now here comes the question. I will have one medium sized suitcase on wheels. Will there be any difficulty getting on the #26 bus? I mean this is clearly the cheapest way to get to the cruise terminal as I will be within the 24 hours of the public transport pass so in effect it's free as I will have long since gotten value the previous afternoon and evening. I can handle my bag; that's not the problem. Is the bus used to having people with suitcases riding it? The other alternative, of course, is metroing back to the airport and catching the NCL transfer there but I'm sure that's much more expensive and not all that much cheaper than say taking the Metro and picking up a cab at one of the stations.

Now also, I'm returning on a Sunday so there is no #26 bus. How to the airport. Cruise line transfer? Cab to a train station?

Any suggestions from a Copenhagen expert will be most appreciated.

Hej Danish Viking,

Would it be possible for you to recommend a nice hotel not too far from the port (cruising with Celebrity) and easy transportation from Kastrup airport. Many thanks in advance for your help.

Its the C330 Oceankaj cruise terminal, I don´t think that Rick Steves books is covering this one because its brand new and opening this year.

But Bus 26 will take you to the Nyhavn/Kongens Nytorv area in no time (aka 30 minutes)

When heading back make sure the direction is UNICEF, Færgehavn Nord and not Langelinie or Færgehavn Nord.

You can take bus 26 to the central station or get off at Østerport and take a train to save some time.

At the central station you can store your luggage and take a walk along strøget.

Maybe Lagkagehuset on strøget would be a good place to get a danish.

First a little correction, you need to buy the Citypass,

The Copenhagen Card is another and more expensive card that includes entrance to tourist sites.

It should be no problem taking your luggage on the 26 bus just sit in the front of the bus where there is room for luggage, prams etc.

Just remember to take the bus that is heading out to the UNICEF terminal.

Its only 2 out of 6 departures every hour so look out :D

If you take the metro to Kongen Nytorv just take the busses marked with a C or E in the timetable.

http://www.moviatrafik.dk/Terminalkort/Kongens%20Nytorv.pdf

You need to get to the bus stop that says Langelinie-Færgehavn Nord because Ålholm Plads is in the other direction.

Most port authorities has the cruise list (I'm guessing its for bragging) so for another time just search port of ....... and the website should turn up.

For Copenhagen (and Malmö) its cmport.com

I don't know how it works in the Caribbean and USA/Canada but I have never seen a European port not listing their cruise calls.

I'm guessing its service for the tour companies, taxi/bus companies but as a added bonus us ship spotters. :D

This thread is a wealth of knowledge. Thanks Danish Viking!

Our family of 4 (all adults) will be staying in Copenhagen 3 days post cruise towards the end of June. We are staying at Hotel Bethel right in the middle of Nyhavn. I've been worried about lunch/dinner options for our some what picky and budget minded tastes. My father does not like "fancy" food, and is not inclined to taste items that are out of his comfort level. Besides shrimp, he is not really a fish person either. His tastes tend to stick with basic meat & potatoes, sandwiches, pastas, pizza, simple standard dishes, etc. I'm hoping that you could give me a few good food options that may meet his tastes.

What about some traditional danish food like "Stegt flæsk med persillesovs" (roast/Crispy pork with parsley sauce).

It is served with potatoes.

Danish Viking,

We have a tentative plan laid out for Copenhagen now. We will take the #26 bus from the ship (C330). According to your information this should get us to the Nyhavn area in about 30 minutes. We want to see Rosenburg Castle and Gardens, Amelienborg Palace and the Little Mermaid as well as have lunch at Nyhavn. This all appears to be walkable (am I right?). If we have time to walk down to City Hall from Nyhavn how long a walk is that? Or should we start from City Hall (does the #26 bus go as far as City Hall)? Lots of questions, I know but I am trying to get an idea of distances and time. Any help you can give will be appreciated. Oh, and where is the best place to catch the #26 bus back to the ship?

Yes the bus stops at the city hall at Rådhuspladsen (city hall square) so you can start there and work your way towards the pier.

I would suggest that you walk most of the route

Notice that i did not make the quicket but most scenic route.

The route end at Østerport station so you can take bus 26 back to Oceankaj.

Its the G or C departures.

We were planning on going to Kronburg Castle and the new maritime museum in Helsinger but giving that they open at 11am might want to change that.

We are docked at the new terminal would it be easy to get to Dragor? Looks like a lovely town with cobble streets. Maybe a good place to have lunch and wander the cobblestone streets? We are spending the day before our b2b cruise and the day after in Copenhagen so thought something outside the city center for the in between day. What do you think?

Thanks Karen

Kronborg Castle is opening at 10:00 in June and July if that helps.

But what date are you in Copenhagen because there are no busses to the Oceankaj cruise terminal on weekends and public holidays.

We are looking at May 17th and would have to be on the ship by 3:00 or 3:30pm.

Thanks again, Karen
