Mura Posted February 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2013 It's been 6-7 years since we were there on a cruise but we shared a cab into town and then took the HOHO bus. We spent most of our time at the Chester Beatty collection. Many people do the Book of Kells at Trinity College, which we would have done had we had time. Lots to do on your own if you don't mind being on your own. Mura
orchestrapal Posted February 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Maura is right again. Do your own if at all possible. Rick Steves has a good walking tour and there are many others out there.:)
eddmel Posted February 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Dublin is a great town to explore on your own. Tea at Bewleys and lunch at the Shelbourne can be squeezed in to a busy and wonderful day. When we need a rest there is Steven's green to regroup ourselves. Always take umbrellas just in case. It rained some, but didn't dampen our spirits. Did Book of Kells and the library. Suggest getting there early. Also Guiness. Never had liked Guiness until had the stuff right out of their tap. Loved it. Just plan out what is most important. Here's the link listing the stops. http://www.dublinsightseeing.ie/citytour.aspx
tanny18 Posted February 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Hi, Have to agree with everyone. We were in Dublin this past September and did the HOHO Bus both days. Walked the town and the wonderful gardens, etc. Arlene

Dublin is a very walkable city. We were there 4 days after our Oceania cruise this June. We took the Wild Wicklow Tour down to the Wicklow Mountains and Gelndalough. We met others from Oceania that were also taking this tour. O ported in Dublin for their cruise. I believe they took a cab from the ship to where the tour bus picked up. MaggieWinslow Posted February 3, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted February 3, 2013 We found walking the cities on our own much more adventurous and rewarding. We will check Rick Steves for sure. We are game for walking tours in any of the cities. Herb spent a couple of days at the Geirangerfjord in the mid 70's and found it absolutely breakthtaking after walking up the hillside for a view of the mountains and water. MaggieWinslow Posted February 3, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted February 3, 2013 It's been years since I have been to Dublin but do remember it was a great walking city. We are up for walking the town and hopping on and off the bus. We would do the same in Edinburgh..
