Question I had that Carnival could not answer >

I was on the phone with Carnival today to make a payment for our upcoming cruise at the end of this month.

Then the question came to me ... I asked the lady if you could take bath towels from your room off the ship if you were thinking about going to the beach while in Cozumel.

She had no answer ... She said she never had anyone ever ask her that question before.

If you think about it ... it's an honest question. Do most people bring bath / beach towels with them on the cruise in there bags, or do they just buy them locally when they get off the boat prior to going to the beach, or do they simply take a few towels from the room when they get off the ship (bringing them back of course)?

Anybody have an answer?

Yes and no, answer that is. I don't cruise Carnival enough to say for sure, but on RCL, it is normal to take a pool towel to the beach and bring it back. If you don't bring it back, they charge you.

Thank's for the reply.

See, that was easy ... I am suprised that the women I talked to from Carnival did not know that.

I am thinking that maybe we are talking to people that don't really work for Carnival, but are actually people working in some Call Center somewhere ... they just wouldn't know everything about what happens on these cruise ships.

Starlight .... the blue ones it is! :)

That's what's nice about this forum .... you can usually get better answers to questions than the people that you talk to when calling Carnival.

Again, I think that you are getting someone at a Call Center somewhere when you call Carnival. At least that's the feeling I get.

You will find that most call centre agents have never cruised. It is my understanding that these agents are employed by Carnival, most in the Miami office, and there are some satellite offices, i.e. in Colorado.

To answer your question...you (and any other passengers in your cabin) will find blue beach towels in your room (usually at turndown the first evening) for your use. There will be a note stating that if the towels are lost / misplaced / not returned, you will be charged $25.00 per towel to cover the cost of replacement.

You are free to take these towel ashore with you, but are responsible for bringing them back. If you come back from port early, or utilize them on-ship and they are wet and/or sandy, you can exchange them for clean/dry ones at the towel kiosk in the pool area on the lido deck.

On our very first cruise we took our own towels from home with us because we were not aware of the above.

Just think, 1 less thing to pack !! :D

Maybe you threw her off when you asked about taking bath towels off the ship instead of beach towels. Who knows:confused:

Should there not be blue towels in the cabin when you board, you might want to inform your steward. You don't want to be charged for a missing towel you never had in the first place.
Very good advice. When we cruised on Ecstasy, there were 4 of us in the room, but there was only 1 blue towel. When we informed our cabin Steward of this, he seemed very shocked. (I'm not even sure he believed me.) But he brought us 3 more pool/beach towels. I'm glad we said something to him before our first port day.

Most of the 500 Carnival employee agents who make reservations (PVPs and CVS) have taken cruises. The 800# agents who handle service issues like payments and changes for existing bookings made thru the 800# or online are young, hourly agents who may or may not have cruised. PVPs handle both bookings and service for their clients and are the best source for accurate, consistent information.

The Colorado office closed almost a year ago.

We always take our big, blue, Carnival towels off the ship with us. Can't imagine why the person on the phone couldn't answer this very simple question!

As pointed out the person on the phone has probably never cruised before, so it isn't surprising at all.

She couldn't answer a question as easy as that? Find another booking agent immediately!

Yes, you can take your beach towel with you. But if you lose it, you own it, and will be charged for it. So, then you raid the towel cart in the hall and throw a used towel in your shower, and they will exchange it for a new one!

no blue towels in the room, just head to the lido deck and borrow some that are used as place holders on all the unoccupied chairs. easy, peasy.

and in all my years of cruising and vacationing i have never known anyone charged for the disappearance of a towel. i think your room steward has more pressing things to do than keeping a running inventory. imho.:)

And I wouldn't be suprised if the person on the phone isn't even a Carnival employee ... but an employee that works for a call center that is contracted by Carnival.

In fact, the lady that originally made my reservation for this cruise had a heavy Indian accent ... my guess is that she works in a call center in India.

Kind of like calling Dell computer ... 9 times out of 10, you will be talking to somebody working in a call center in the Philippines.

Outsourcing!

A strong possibility for sure.

just finished designing the interior space for a call center company. they are in a 5 story building and employ roughly 10,000 employees and contract with companies all over the world. i live in a city where call centers are one of the major sources of income for the college age set.

people are fooling themselves into thinking that a phone call will connect them with someone who knows all about everything concerning the product they are representing. call a major hotel chain and see how much the person on the other end of the phone knows about the place.

Then don't try to tell me I should be calling my cruise specialist, or personal vacation planner, all while trying to put true Travel Agents out of business.

So you are saying the PVP's are not CCL employees either? It's my understanding that the CSR's that answer the 800 are separate and distinct from the PVP's that one gets assigned to (I know my PVP is very knowledgagle of the CCL brand and has always been helpful).
