Breakaway Plus Class of Ships???

I just read NCL's earnings press release and it mentions the delivery of a Breakaway Plus class ship in the 4th quarter of 2015, with an option for a second ship. Does anyone know what this ship will be like? Will it be larger than the Breakaway class ships? Smaller? I try and hop on CC daily and don't recall ever seeing the Breakaway Class ships mentioned before. Does anyone know what this is?

I give NCL kudos for the way they are addressing the trend towards larger ships. After building the Epic, they took several comments/suggestions on what worked and did not work. The Breakaway class of ships has several innovations like the 678 Ocean Place and aqua park. I am confident that the Breakaway Plus class will incorporate the best of both classes without just being a large monster ship.

On the '2013 - 2014 Itinerary Guide' I got from the Epic 2 weeks ago, it says 'Breakaway Plus 2015 (163,000 tons)'. Breakaway and Getaway are 144,000 tons. Epic is approx. 155,000 tons.

I just looked up Oasis/Allure of the Seas and their tonnage is listed at 225,000+ tons - are they THAT much bigger than Epic? That's crazy.

My wife and I love sailing on the Jewel and Dawn class ships as they're just the right size for us. However, during our recent cruise on the Star we had a nice talk with one of the senior officers about the sizes of NCL's ships and he mentioned that the bigger ships were the future of the industry and we needed to get used to it. So, we've started looking at the Epic and the Breakaway class of ships for our future cruise possibilities. I love NCL and the wonderful cruise experiences we've had and am confident/comfortable that we'll have a great experience regardless of what ship we're on. So I say bring on the bigger ships!!!

Yeah. The Oasis and Allure are about 100 feet longer and 20 feet wider than the Epic. That doesn't seem like much, but that's 16% wider and nearly 10% longer than the Epic. It holds 5400 pax and 2400 crew versus 4100/1700 for the Epic.

According to Wikipedia, the actual mass of the Oasis is about 100,000 metric tons, which is right up there with a Nimitz class aircraft carrier.

The Epic is about the same length and beam (width) as the USS Ronald Reagan. The carriers have more mass because you add on the structure of the flight deck (which about doubles the width), etc.

One could always follow the ships to whomever NCL sells them to.

Oh, man! I hadn't heard about this new ship class, or even that there was to be a new ship in 2015. I'm already obsessing about my 2015 cruise, because it'll be a "biggie"...probably Europe or Alaska...somewhere other than the Caribbean, and we won't be taking the kids. I can't book yet, obviously, because of the lack of itineraries 2.5 year out, but now I'll have to wait until I see this new ship and where it will be going.

I don't know, I still love the Jewel Class Ships. Although I like many of the concepts of the Breakaway, it just seems too big. Also, the idea of being onboard with that many passengers is overwhelming to a germ-o-phobe.

I have not been on Epic but have been on a ship thats around 138,000 tons and Oasis is REALLY that big. You notice it a lot when out on the pool decks that she is super wide...the ship is absolutley INCREDIBLE.

I LOVE the big ships so Breakaway Plus sounds great to me.:)

Ok my friends I'm ready to go again. Just got home from the Conquest trip. And are looking forward to having Bananas And Watermelons on the Jewel after giving all of our produce to the Triumph on this trip. We stayed along side of her for 4 & half hours Transferring food and water and giving them cell phone hook up with our wireless network.

Just did our first NCL cruise on the Epic in December and LOVED it! We're already booked on the Breakaway. I was disappointed to hear that the Getaway will be doing the same itinerary as the Epic. Hoping the Breakaway Plus has an interesting itinerary.

I also enjoyed Epic. There are many similarities between Epic and Breakaway, but I think Breakaway/Getaway are better because of the 'Waterfront' feature.

The most interesting ships do the most boring itineraries.

I fear that Breakaway-plus ships (Escape and Bliss) will be almost identical but with just an extra deck of cabins.

The most interesting ships normally do the most popular itinerary (and therefore most financially viable) - Eastern Caribbean. Miami press has basically confirmed that Norwegian Escape (first of the two Breakaway Plus class ships) will be home-porting in Miami, so it will also do a Caribbean itinerary.

Both the Getaway AND the Escape will be home-porting out of Miami? Wow, that's interesting, and a lot of cabins to fill each week. If that's true, I wonder what happens to the Pearl and Sun - maybe one, or both of them, stays and does the southern itineraries? It'll definitely be interesting to see how NCL configures their ports and itineraries!

It would good if the older ships started to head deeper into Central or South America.

Norwegian also hasn't touched Asia or Australia yet, so maybe they will reposition some of the smaller ships to do more "exotic" itineraries? They already are planning on moving Epic to Europe year-round, so they're definitely making some big plans for deployment changes.

I really think there will be an extra deck of public space. One thing I know the Noodle Bar and Bliss are moving out of the casino space. Bliss area will become a large circular casino bar.

Off topic, somewhat. :o

Which CC'er has the image of an amusing possible circular configuation for BA Plus ship in their signature, with lots of pool space? :D

I've searched all kinds of threads looking for said image, to no avail.

Please assist if possible.

TIA
