USS Mohawk, Higgs Beach, & Zachary Park

We're taking the City View Hop on Hop Off tour. We'd like to just wander for the day.

 

Is the USS Mohawk museum in a building or do you go ON the ship?

 

Can you swim or hang out at Higgs Beach if you Hop off the tour there?

 

Would the beach be better at the Zachary Park?

Unfortunately, Mohawk is no longer here. It is now an artificial reef. However, CGC Ingham is here and is a great tour. It is the actual ship and it is a self guided tour though the ship.

 

I recommend Ft Zachary beach over Higgs Beach.

Another vote for Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. There is a small fee for the day. While there you can also tour the Civil War era fort. There are some nice views from atop the fort.

 

Another place you might enjoy while you are touring the Ingham and before you get to Fort Zacahary Taylor is to go to the free Eco-Discovery science museum. It is dedicated to marine and bird life in and around the Florida Keys.

If you have a snorkel and mask, take it with you to Ft. Zachary Beach. The snorkeling isn't the best I've ever done but it was fun. (You don't need fins.)
