bear5 Posted February 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2013 We're celebrating our 10th anniversary with 5&7 y.o. kids on W. Med cruise early July. DS has severe food allergies (dairy, all nuts, egg). Will try and eat on board as much as possible by doing shorter excursions but Rome would be a challenge. Anyone with experience navigating Rome, France or Italy without dairy products in particular (figuring this would be hardest to avoid) would be much appreciated! Many thanks. Rare 1025cruise Posted February 18, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2013 I understand that you can get cards printed in multiple languages that can state allergies. I would bring them with you and just show them to the wait staff and let them assist you.
rebeccalouiseagain Posted February 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2013 When we were in Rome we had the antipasto platter- which had lots of lunch meats tomatoes and vegetables- just say no cheese. This is something you might all enjoy. Most places will have fish and meat dishes. So you don't have to have pasta or pizza. In fact, most Italians eat light dishes not the heavy starchy things that we think of as "Italian".
SadieN Posted February 18, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2013 When we went to Rome I made up cards for DDthe Younger's nut allergy. Saved her a couple of times from ordering the wrong things. Almost all of the pizza shops had a red pizza. Just crust and sauce. DDtheOlder is now studying in Rome. She has several friends for the past few years in Rome that have gluten allergies. I used Google translate to make up laminated business size cards. This company has been suggested on CC before. http://selectwisely.com/
