Turtle Farm - is it worth going?

We did turtle farm/Boatwain's park last year. Had a great day. We bought access to the whole park online ahead of time which included transportation. We rode the bus with the same cruisers who were on the ship sponsored excursion (which of course was more expensive for them.) Actually looking at the turtles didn't take much time but they have a great swimming pool with water slide that our kids loved. We then toured the rest of the animals and had lunch at the restaurant. For us, mom, dad, 3 kids ages 12, 10, and 7, it was a great day.

After reading about the "FARM" from fellow cruise critic posters.............the pro's and con's................knowing that some of the turtles are being raised to be harvested.............just could not go.

I know we raise livestock state side for human consumption, but, we do not pay to tour our ranches.

Yes, we pay to consume their meat, Ie steaks, hamburgers.

I guess you could say it is a no win situation.

Oh, we have 3 pet turtles (slo-poke-Timon and our little 'pet' peeve) they are all rescue turtles that we nursed back to health broken shells and all, one was black topped with asphalt (and dawn dishwashing soap and a tooth brush cleaned him up) , and I could not harm them.'

They are domesticated and cannot be released into the wild..........so we give them a good home.

Trying to make their remaining months turtle like.

Am I NUTS, maybe, but, this is one excursion our family will pass on.

Safe travels.

We went there while staying on the island (4 adults). Whether it's worth the visit depends on what you are looking for on your only day in port. GCM is a great port to spend the day on the water and experience the stingray tour and other stops. If you've already done that then yes, the turtle farm would be fun for Nathan, especially if you get the full ticket. He could hold turtles and see the big ones' there's an alligator feeding that he would really enjoy; and there's a large pool with a short waterslide that you could all enjoy.

The girls really enjoyed going but it was a quick day (a couple houtrs at the most) and once is enough for us. But we would consider it again if we had kids.

The full price ticket adds the pool and waterslide, snorkel area, and the small aviary. There's a restaurant on-site.

And right across the street is the dolphin encounter, you can just walk in on most days and watch the dolphins and grab a bite there if you want.

And a few miles further up is Hell, nothing really to see other than the rock formation and get a postcard to mail from "Hell".
