Fantasy Class uppers

What kind of railing do the Fantasy class uppers have?

 

I'm concerned about whether it will work for either of my daughters (3 & 5 years old) to sleep on the uppers. I've seen some pictures of uppers and the railing doesn't look like it would really contain a small child.

 

I'm not sure if I should buy an inflatable bumper or something to bring just to be safe.

 

Anyone have any advice?

Here is the upper on the Inspiration. The gap is about 9".

 

IIRC the bar on the Paradise had less space between the top of the railing and the bed.

My 4 year old will be on one on an upcoming cruise. Would it be possible to safety pin a blanket over it? I am going to bring a bunch of diaper pins and pin a blanket to cover the whole rail opening.

You may want to ask your stateroom steward once you board. I'm sure they've dealt with this before. I wonder if extra pillows would help?

Our 4-yr old grandson had no problems sleeping on an upper. We asked our steward for extra pillows to lie next to the rail. Worked fine!

I used pillows late time we were on the Miracle. I also think I remember signing someone use trays from the Buffett.

I think I saw in another thread to use trays from the buffet. That seems like a good "free" solution. The inflatable bumpers I saw on Amazon are expensive!
