Tendering at a overcrowded port

If 8 ships are scheduled for a port with 6 docks, how do they decide who has to tender in? Is it based on the size of the ship?

I would assume the smallest ones would be easiest to tender. Also timetables are a factor.

They decide by whoever has reserved the "slots" for that day. The ships don't just show up and look for a "parking" slot. They are reserved months/years in advance and guarantee a spot.

I know a few websites that give port traffic info. If you tell me what port and the date, I can look to see if there is any info on who will be tendering.

Possibly 9 if they don't get Carnival Dream running by then.

I agree that it is based upon the size of the smokestacks. After all, size does matter! ;)

Most ships DOCK in St.Maarten so there should not be many that will need to tender.

 

We actually like to tender in St.Maarten ... but it's been years since we have been on a ship there that tendered.

I have found that this site is not kept up to date, as it once was; and noticed quite a few discrepencies between CTT and what we saw on our recent February 2013 Gem cruise. It also was not accurate for our Burmuda cruise last August 2012

Hmmm...my cruise tt link lists ncl gem, ncl sun, carnival dream, crystal serenity, westerdam, ventura, oasis of the seas and celebrity reflection for a total of 22,550 passengers. Wow, I might have to rethink just how important my guavaberry addiction is. Might be better to just chill by the pool.

The port authority of st maarten also lists the silver spirit for 12/18. Yep, the pool is sounding brtter and better

A couple ships should go around to the north side of the island (St Martin) and tender in to Orient Beach. Now that would make some people happy. ;) :D

When we were on the Pearl for the Panama Canal cruise we came into, I think, Acapulco. The Star was in that day at the dock, and we tendered. We were told that the Star got the dock because she was a regular on the Mexican Riviera route and we were just a one off.
