Will we have time for Crane Beach?

We will be in Barbados from 7:00-5:00 in July. We have booked a ship tour that is scheduled to end at 1pm. I am sure we would need to be back at the ship by 4pm. My question is, when the ship tour drops us off, would we have time to take a cab to Crane Beach for an hour or so? How far is it to the beach? Will there be plenty of cabs available at Crane Beach to ensure we are able to get back to the ship in time?

Thanks!

Crane Beach is right across the other side of the island from where the Port is!

You probably just passed it, on your tour!

I'm thinking you won't have enough time, not comfortably at least..

  • 4 weeks later...

I've been looking at Crane's location on the maps, but it's hard to tell how long it would actually take to get there by taxi since I don't know what the roads are like or what the speed limit is. Does anyone know?

From what I've read so far, it looks like it may take 40 to 50 minutes to get from Crane to Paynes Bay, so I'm thinking 45 minutes from Carlisle to Crane then Crane to the port would be a safe estimate?

From what I've read so far, it looks like it may take 40 to 50 minutes to get from Crane to Paynes Bay,

so I'm thinking 45 minutes (EACH WAY) from Carlisle to Crane

then Crane to the port ..would be a safe estimate?

Speed limit generally is 60 kph (= 37 mph)

and 80 kph (= 50 mph) on our cross-island hiway.

Your estimated times are fairly accurate! Well done!

A lot depends on if your driver is giving you the scenic slow-driving tour(hoping for more $$)

- or is he just getting you there?

............................

Bear in mind that if your ship is one of several ships in port that day

there is often considerable traffic congestion on all roads approaching the Port (around 3-5 p.m. I'm told)

when thousands of cruisers like yourself are all descending on the Port for evening sailaways!

So don't go leaving your return to the ship too late, okay?

Thank you!

We've checked & it looks like we will be the only ship there. ===> Carnival VALOR? on a Wednesday?

Hopefully we can find a driver who will take us directly there!

Oh I'm sure you can

especially if you get together three or four like-minded couples

to really make the trip worth the driver's while!

Fill up one of those big 10-seater vans, why dontcha! ;)

I'll get straight to the point: I collect cruise cards.

Mine and anyone else's.

It's quite a collection now, over 200 different cruise cards

from all sorts of cruise lines

including cards for all sorts of "non-standard" purposes on board. (Don't ask!) :D

I'm particularly interested in Carnival cards,

and in any older cards from back in the 2000's and even the 1990's. (they do exist!)

Many people just toss their cards out, once the cruise is finished

but I've always valued mine and kept every one.

Hopefully some people have their old cards stashed away in a sock drawer

or maybe in a scrapbook?

If you have spares/duplicates, and can bear to part with them

please respond to this appeal, either here

or by emailing me at <pcdoctor (at) karibcable dot com>

Many thanks for listening!
