Hi Fellow Cruisers:

I have been looking for cruises from Ca to Hi.

Does anyone have experience with these? What about Pride of America?

I have been searching the web but find that referrals are better.

Need any pointers you all can offer.

Looking to go next April or May ( of 2014- RETIREMENT FOR MY FRIEND- THERE WILL BE 4 OF US)

Thanks.:o

First you won't find any one way cruises from Ca to Hi unless you leave from Ensenada or Vancouver Canada. This is caused something called the Jone's Act or PVSA rule. Most cruises from Ca to HI are round trip with a stop in Ensenada to satisfy the Jone's Act or PVSA rule. Pride oif America just cruises from Honolulu on a 7 day round trip.

I enjoy seadays so for me the 14 day roundtrip from LA on Princess is great & it's very convenient to drive to the port for the cruise & not have to fly anywhere. I noticed that you're in Phoenix so it's possible for you to drive to LA & also not have to fly. I've spent a lot of time in Hawaii so it's convenient for me to 'island-hop' by ship for a day in each port. If you do it this way you could discover your favorite island & return in the future for an enjoyable landtour.

For those who have to fly to the west coast it might be better to fly to Hawaii to enjoy more time on an island (Maui is my favorite) either pre or post cruise. I haven't sailed on NCL since 1986 but have read many positive things about their 7 day Hawaii itinerary.

There are a few cruiselines that occasionally have one-ways but as noted above, due to our friend:rolleyes:, the PVSA, these would either start or end in Ensenada or Vancouver. So you can either check the websites for Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Celebrity, or check with a cruise specialist who will look for a cruise for you. But usually these aren't on a regular basis.

Also some cruiselines will start in LA or San Diego, have a stop in Hawaii, but continue on to Tahiti or another place in the South Pacific.

The Hawaiian cruises that start in SD, LA or SF are round trip, but are extremely popular.

When the ROS was here in 08 we did a round trip out of San Diego and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ironically next year when we go to Sydney for our NZ cruise, we will again be on the ROS and continue on with the Transpacific to Honolulu & 12 day Hawaii to Vancouver on April 27, 2014. svejkat, you might consider the April 27, 2014 Hawaii cruise back to Vancouver on the Radiance of the Seas.
