Casino open in Bermuda ?

I read on a roll call that Norwegian and Bermuda were in discussions about leaving ships casino open in Bermuda. Does anyone know if this happened or will be happening?

Nothing for Bermuda to gain but lots to lose by allowing ship's casinos to open while in port. Doubt it will ever happen without a large incentive payment from the cruise lines.

So if I'm reading this right.. for the Boston/Bermuda run, the casino will be closed almost 3 days? yikes..

I could see this being used by NCL as a negotiating point with the government. They coud say "If the wharf project isn't finished in time for Breakaway, and we're forced to tender, you must allow us to keep the casino open". Bermuda would have something to gain, as opposed to having NCL change itinerary.

For many years now Bermuda has refused to cave in to the cruise lines pressure. Not likely to change now. There is nothing to be gained for Bermuda so no incentive to change. Casinos have been closed for three days for many years and the cruises still sell out almost every cruise, there is plenty of demand for this cruise.

Please remember that casinos and shops are closed while the ship is in port virtually everywhere...so in the daytime, the cruise lines are losing absolutely nothing in Bermuda beyond what they would lose while visiting any port. It's only at night, when the ship would be at sea on most other itineraries, that the closures are reducing the cruise lines' revenues. If you look at the Bermuda cruise schedule carefully, you'll see that NCL ships, while in port for three days, are actually in port only two nights on the Bermuda itinerary...on the third day the ship departs for its home port in the late afternoon. The result is that on the seven night Bermuda itinerary, the casinos and shops are open for 5 of the 7 nights.

Actually it's 2 nights that you will lose your casino time.

 

Casino closes when ship is in port in other places, anyway.

The ship's casino as well as the shops are closed while you are in Bermuda.
