It's been reported that the fleet has been refinanced and will return to sailing-- anybody know any details???

I didn't intend to respond to my own post, but the French website

Mer et Marine reports that four of the five ships will now sail for a

company called Portuscale Cruises (The Princess Daphne will remain in

the hands of the Potamianos family)

 

The updating of the Funchal to meet current SOLAS requirements will be

resumed and the three remaining ships will be renamed for, like the

Funchal, Portuguese places:

 

The Athena will now be the Azores (or Acores?)

The Arion will be renamed Porto

The Princess Danae, Lisboa

Funchal is beautiful in her new black, white and red livery. What a wonderful thing that these classic ships are saved from the breakers!

We sailed on the Athena out of Falmouth to the Caribbean. had an absolutely wonderful time. She was built in 1939 at the Stockholm.

We travelled on The Princess Daphne in Jan 2011. We departed Singapore and went to some amazing places. I had read so much negative stuff about this majesitc ship before we left, that I was really quite anxious.

 

This was the best ship, with the best crew I have ever been on. I heard she doesnt run anymore:(. I would be stoked to travel with anyone of their fleet in the future.

According to Mer et Marine, Portuscale has announced they are suspending all work on the Lisboa and cancelling plans for the rest of the year. Costs have supposedly risen to unmanageable levels. Seems like she will be scrapped. Shame...

I really hope they don't scrap her, she is an absolute beauty.

I have been attempting to find a roll call for the Funchal and stumbled over this thread. We are looking at the Newcastle to Geelong sector or reverse.
