Dubrovnik anchor or docked port?

We are sailing on Riviera Italian Escapades on 28th August. The itinerary does not show Dubrovnik as an anchor port. I was not aware that there was a docking facility - maybe there is for the smaller ships. Perhaps someone out there knows. many thanks

There may or may not be.

We never count on them but the taxis are well organized to get you to the old town gate.

They took either local currencies or euros when we were there. Not sure about US dollars.

You can also usually share the cab with another couple for the same price.

Leaving to old city gate there are plenty of taxis and they know you want to go back to the ship. (A ship in port is a bonanza for them!)

Here is the modern dock where Oceania usually docks.

Last year, Riviera offered a free shuttle from the dock area to the Old Town gate. The shuttle was quite crowded and our time in port very short so we relied on the relatively inexpensive cab ride instead.

Large ships dock way out of town. Smaller ships anchor and are tendered right into the center of town.

Sorry, that is not always the case at all. On our first visit, on a small "R" ship, we were anchored so far out that it was a 20-minute tender ride to the dock. On our second visit, same small "R" ship, we were docked. Just depends on how crowded it is and the assignments given out by the local port authority.

We were on the April 28, 2013 Riviera sailing (last week) from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Venice. We docked in Dubrovnik on May 3 along with a much larger ship, the MSC Divina.

Enjoy your cruise!

Many thanks for your reply. Did O provide free shuttle to town? We certainly will enjoy the cruise it will be our 26th cruise over 20 years but we have only cruised with Celebrity ( our favourite ) RCCL and P&O. We are very much looking forward to a new experience on this smaller ship. Cheers & thanks

CintiPam,

When I say small ships I meant Seabourn. I've been there three times on Seabourn and always anchored.

We will be stopping in Dubrovnik in September on our Azamara Quest cruise. We will see where we end up. Whereever, it is a wonderful port.

Just got back yesterday from the Aegean Gems cruise on Riviera which visited Dubrovnik. We docked there and got the complimentary bus into the city - it's a distance of around 3 km. A customs officers got on the bus and cursorily checked everyone's passport/ID.
