Naples on our own

My husband and I will be on the Celebrity Reflection June 17th. One of our ports is Naples which we want to do on our own. Has anybody walked from the port to the Museo Archeologico ****onale? Looks a bit strenious - uphill and about 15 - 20 blocks. Taking the subway may be a better idea.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Katherine from Toronto.

I've walked it many times, but you'd probably enjoy the walk back more as it's gently downhill. The museum is just over a mile from the cruise port.

To get to the museum from the port you can walk 2/10ths of a mile to the Medina bus stop (on Via Medina across the street from Via Incoronata if you're looking on a map) and take a bus from there.

By metro you'd walk 4/10ths of a mile to the Universita station (located at Piazza Giovanni Bovio) and take the metro two stops to the Museo station.

Hi, not answering your question but we just visited Naples for a day on our cruise and got the fast cat over to the Isle of Capri and absolutely loved it.

We got the 8am cat then got the fenicular to the next level, then the bus, then the chairlift. The view is amazing. We made our way down, stopping to look at shops, sightsee, eat (of course). Then we did the boat trip around the island. Fantastic day.

Gotta agree with everyone.. Take the Catamaran to Capri. My wife and I did it on our first trip to Naples. You will not be disappointed. It was a highlight of our cruise. We have another port of call there in October and are going back... Make sure to take the chair lift to the top of the island... Incredible views...

AnotHer wonderful thing to do is visit the private chapel that has the statue of the veiled Christ and a few other amazing sculptures. These works of art are located in the Museo Capella Sansevero. A taxi driver can find it. Innformation: http://Www.museosansevero.it.

Definitely worth an hour or so including transportation when you're in Naples. We visited after our outing to Capri.

Which tour line runs this trip or how do you pick it up? We also want to go to Pompei.

No need for an organized tour to Capri, if one even exists. Simply walk out of the cruise ship terminal and turn left - you'll be at Molo Beverello where you get the boats out to Capri.

If you also want to go to Pompei you can make a loop (either Naples - Pompei - Sorrento - Capri - Naples) or the other way around, but it won't give you much time at either place.

Gotta agree with whystayhome - the Chapel of SanSevero was awesome and the Veiled Christ moved us to the point of tears. There is so much to see and do from this port. Our stop was Sorrento and we were able to see Pompeii and Herculaneum on the way to Naples and the Chapel. Our 4th trip to Naples is scheduled for November and we will finally get to Capri, I hope.
