Car Rental pickup at FLL and drop off at POM

There is 6 of us flying into FLL the day before our cruise and we are trying to figure out the best way to get to Miami the next day.

We were thinking about renting a van at FLL and dropping it off at POM the next day.

We haven't done this before so any recommendations? SOS!

Thanks

National, Alamo, and Thrifty offer free shuttles from MIA to POM.

6 plus bags will be a tight squeeze into a mini-van, especially if any in your group packs like my wife! :o

Shared shuttle service (check with SAS, QLS, MJS and Go Airport Shuttle) from FLL to POM will run about $13-15 per person each way.

Good luck! :)

I agree with JohninDC that it will be tight but doable! We had 4 adults and two kids (one 16) in a Toyota Minivan from Tampa to Cocoa Beach after a cruise and we fit everything in, including a collapsable walker and a collapsable wheel chair. The aisles were full and stuff was in front of feet, but it was ok:o. You learn to use the outside mirrors!

Regarding FLL to MIA which we have also done, we would also recommend Hertz or Alamo, they both have free shuttle to the Port after drop off. We have dealt with each of them once and they were both very easy to deal with.

Vans are expensive in Dec when we are going, but we got a great rate w/ E-Z Car rental (new to us) online for $51 for 1 day overnite to be picked up in FLL and returned next day in MIA (Dodge Caravan van).....they charge a $25 drop off fee, but they also have coupon codes (on a tab on their site at the top)...so ended up being $92 incl. taxes and drop off fee.....the next cheapest was Alamo at $152. Still cheaper doing this and taking a $20 cab to POM (shuttle not so free at these rates).

What we did last year was flew in early the day before to FLL and picked a car up. Spent the day sightseeing, and at the end of the day took the car back to the MIA airport and took the free shuttle to our hotel (La Quinta MIA east), which gives you a free shuttle to port of Miami on the day of your cruise. Just another option, it was nice to not have to mess with the car drop off the morning of.
