I have read that you can do a walking tour on your own 4 to 6 hours.

 

Can you get the maps at an information centre near the port ?

 

If so, are the information centres easy to spot ?

 

Is it a safe city to walk around ?

Yes, Old San Juan is safe. Just don't put yourself in vulnerable situations, don't get stupid drunk, don't flash cash, that kind of stuff. :D

I found this online. I would think you could use this to map out the places you'd like to see during your visit? I'll be sure to post if I find a better one.
