Poulsbo Cruisers Posted May 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2013 We will be flying into Budapest to start our Vantage river cruise. We did not purchase air through Vantage and do not have transfers. What is the best way to get to the ship terminal from the airport. Are taxis readily available? And how much should we plan on spending for a taxi? Thanks. franski Posted May 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Hi - There is no ship terminal as such... the boats dock on both sides of the Danube (although really only saw them on the Pest side when we were there about 2 weeks ago....) We arranged our own transport from our hotel to the airport. We used Alajos Pulai - his website is http://budapestairporttaxi.com/Welcome.html If you send him an e-mail, he should respond promptly, and confirm a price. Riversedge Posted May 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2013 There will be plenty of taxis available at the airport to take you to the boat. We can't remember for sure the price we paid but it seems like it was about 25 Euro.

Fran This is great info as we will be flying into Budapest and staying overnight in a hotel we booked on our own. We will also contact the website for transportation info. Also, I understand that Budapest currency not the euro. How much of their currency would you recommend for 2 nights? We will be using credit cards for meals and bigger items. Thanks! It was a bit challenging to get my mind around the HUF equivalent. It sounds so expensive to pay 600 HUFs for paprika - yet it is under $3 CDN. Not sure what incidentals you might buy - especially if you plan on visiting the central market. Not all the stalls there take credit cards. And - depending on where you eat - you might need more cash. For example, we enjoy the Cafe Kor - but they only take cash, so made sure that we had enough when we went there to eat. And, the night before, we only ended up paying 5,500 HUFs for dinner - the equivalent of around $25 - so paid cash. If you got 20,000 HUFs, that is around $100. The exchange rate - when we took that amount out through an ATM - was $115. so, money for the market, some meals and incidentals. If you have Euros, many places will take those as well, although the exchange isn't always the best. Fran
