jfergi27 Posted May 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2013 Hello everybody! We need some advice as we are confused on which trip to take. We have a son that will be 28 months old at the time of sailing. We are hope that he will be potty trained, however we wont know until the last minute of the cruise. We have made deposits on both the Disney Fantasy on a cat. 4B room and a Cat D1 on the Freedom of the seas. We want to know which of the two is more family friendly, but also which one has adult activities that will please us grown ups. We are aware of no casino being aboard the Fantasy. We came here to neutral ground. But if you dont want to answer just please Vote!!!
Rare Scrapnana Posted May 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2013 I'm not sure you can get more family friendly than Disney.
boulders Posted May 31, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2013 Disney is not necessarily the best choice. I am not a fan of their kids clubs. But, your son is too young for the kids club on both ships. Both ships will have a nursery. The cat 4B will be larger. Everything else being equal, I would lean towards that. But everything else is probably not equal. Is there a price difference? Is it the same itinerary with same port times. Do you really like Disney characters? Are you big Disney fans? What time of year would you be sailing? Friend100 Posted May 31, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2013 Forget about your son for a moment. What are the adults' preference? Fun, activities, itinerary, ship design, space, food, service ... how important is getting the disney "magic" is to you?
huneymoonerz Posted June 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2013 How old are your kids?
cb at sea Posted June 13, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Disney will have larger cabins, and better food. Other than that, you will have activities and entertainment on both cruiselines. Generally, Disney is more expensive than RCI. Your child is too young to really care, so it's up to you!

I just don't think the extra $$ of Disney is worthwhile with a child so young. Both are family friendly and I definitely think the adults will be happier on FOS. Mom2B&Z Posted June 13, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 13, 2013 I've never sailed RCCL, but I have sailed DCL and wouldn't spend the money to cruise them with babies or toddlers. They are very expensive, Disney-focused (we are not a Disney-obsessed family, though we like some of their movies), and IMHO overpriced for the product. Now if you are huge Disney fans, then by all means go on the Disney cruise, otherwise I'd book RCCL.
nmmickeymom Posted July 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 28, 2013 We are big Disney fans and loved our Fantasy cruise. (We are booked on RC but have not cruised with them yet) That said, Disney night life is lacking. Some of the fun adult evening entertainment happened in pubs but they were stuffed full with only one evening performance. In contrast, our Carnival cruise had the comedians etc. in the main theater with people serving you drinks. The Disney shows are incredible but you will find a theater full of kids with popcorn and a line at the bar. Later, when your kiddo is older, the family fun on Disney is great. We are looking for some more nightlife, we are past the princess stage with our girls, and we no longer look at Disney.
xcell Posted July 28, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 28, 2013 Same ports? At that age, I would say pick a cruise that you would enjoy because anything will entertain your son. We did RCI and Disney, so if you are a Disney "fan" then you should experience it at least once but if not, I would say RCI would be more relaxing (and less expensive). mymollysue Posted July 28, 2013 #11 Share Posted July 28, 2013 I say Freedom at this point. Better adult night life and still enough to do for your 2 year old. When your little one is a bit older, I say take a Disney cruise!
