Room Service Menus.....

What is Code Orange?

Certain extra sanitary precautions are put in place for the first two days of every cruise. You cannot serve yourself in the Lido. All drinks are poured for you, set down, and you pick them up. All food is served to you there. Salt & pepper shakers are off the table, but packets are set out.

This is to stop cross-contamination from one person to another via touching each other and common utensils. If, at the end of two days there is no sign of gastrointestinal illness on board, the precautions are lifted.

it amazes me how most folks on this board only stay in balcony, neptune, or penthouse categories. no wonder you people have such exhalted impressions of hal. you are, yourselves, exhalted. who among you wants opinions from the lower three decks? after all, you are subsidizing us. wow, thank you so much.

I could be wrong - but I don't think so.

Aren't ALL HAL CABIN GUESTS allowed to eat in the Lido, eat in the MDR and order Room Service? What does stateroom category have to do with your post?

On the Zuiderdam in 2004, my brother-in-law and I LOVED the room service. I think we had the cheese steak (with bacon for 4 on the side sometimes...we are big eaters) 6 out of the 7 days, and I ordered breakfast with pastry, fruit and coffee every day. Wonderful. In 2012 on the Eurodam, I ordered the same cheese steak sandwich. It came looking sloppy and dripping with mayonnaise (one of the few things I don't like on a sandwich). Sent it back, ordered another one sans mayo. Came sloppy and dripping with mayo. Sent back and ordered another one...same thing. That was the last room service attempt. I will try again on the Noordam, but I don't have high hopes, except for a formal night surf and turf MDR delivery, and not really high hopes for that, I just enjoy eating on the veranda. Curious to see the new menu.

I have tried whole wheat numerous times and I know it's healthier but for me it is not better tasting.

I'm with you. I still have a couple of whole wheat pasta types in my pantry. I've given them a fair trial. It just isn't quite right on my taste buds.

It is NOT a classic Club Sandwich if there is ham and cheese on it and should be renamed something else. We have only had the classic turkey, bacon, tomato and lettuce Club on all the ships we have been on.

Is including the ham and cheese something new, on all ships, on the room service menu as a club, or is it just the whim of a chef on one ship? How the heck can they screw up a Club Sandwich???

We were sooo disappointed by the sandwich. My DH loves loves club sandwiches but is not a ham or cheese fan and he was shocked to see those on the sandwich. We even tried ordered it a second time asking for the ham and cheese to be removed and we got a sandwich that had ham-scented bread, so clearly they were made up in advance.

We happen to be sailing on the same ship the next time we travel on HAL so I guess we're doomed to these unnecessary extras again.

Was there chicken in your club sandwich or just the ham and cheese, presumably with bacon, lettuce and tomato?

We've had ham and cheese on the "Club" sandwiches from room service three times on our recent B2B Zuiderdam cruise. We had the same "Club" sandwich on the Nieuw Amsterdam in January. On our cruise last month, one night it was American cheese, then Swiss and finally Cheddar cheese.

So -- what did you order and how was the food?

We often book the PS.

We had breakfast one day. This was five years ago, so I can't remember what we had but I'd guess coffee, juice, cereal, bacon and eggs, toast. I can't remember how it tasted, I'm sure it was fine.

That was the only time we've booked the PS, it was our 25th wedding anniversary and the price was right so we took it. On the roll call people started making comments that they all hoped they'd get the upsell to the PS, and then I burst their bubble!

I've been following this thread and was wondering if someone could post what is actually on the current room service menu? I've never been on HAL, only RCCL and Celebrity and would be interested in comparing them.

  • 2 weeks later...

Oh gosh, I'd love to see the bread pudding on the RS menu. However, I'm still wearing a significant amount of HAL bread pudding on my hips, so... :p

My DH got the club sandwich and really loved it. I ordered the French onion soup several times and loved that.

We also got RS breakfast several times. It was always delicious, the eggs were hot, and I appreciated the coffee carafes--I held one aside one day for several hours, and the coffee remained piping hot. Oh how I love HAL coffee.
