scrim67 Posted July 24, 2014 #776 Share Posted July 24, 2014 Hi my is Lisa a 47 year old single parent traveling 7/27/14-8/3/14 on norwegian breakaway to bermuda. Any other singles traveling with me? Lisa Lisa, Since you are traveling with a group I'm assuming you are not staying in a studio cabin. You should know that even if not in a studio cabin you can meet other solo travelers in the studio lounge during the happy hour they have every day from 5pm to 6pm. Great way to meet other solo travelers and they organize group dinners, some events, etc. I sailed Breakaway last year and enjoyed it so much I signed up again for this Sunday. I just got off the SPLENDOR a few weeks ago after traveling with my GF and her two kids which was fun but I needed a vacation from my vacation and traveling solo is totally stress free!!!!!! Only 75 hours until we set sail!!!! scrim67 aka mike
Gt.DanesRGR8 Posted July 25, 2014 #777 Share Posted July 25, 2014 My next solo cruise in 70 days on the Westerdam ,San Diego to Mexico :) I think your your cruise is for 7 (seven) days - not 70. ;) I looked it up as I could be interested in one of 70 days - perhaps they could do both the Pacific & Eastern coasts of Mexico utilizing the Panama Canal ! :) I'm doing the Sept. 27, 71 day cruise, on the Volendam, L.A, all around Australia & onto Singapore. I like the longer cruises ! Enjoy your cruise ! ! ! Ms. B.

hellotoyou222 Posted July 25, 2014 #779 Share Posted July 25, 2014 I got a casino comped cruise on NCL. Booked Breakaway 8/24 to bermuda. I was going with a friend but very sadly she has had a spread of her breast cancer and a new cervical cancer. she's having a radical hysterectomy this tues. We don't know how she'll be at the end of aug. (prob. not good) plus she may need chemo for the bone. I will spend a few weeks taking care of her. I was going to cancel but am thinking I really need a vacation and have been looking forward to this. We have a stateroom. Do you think they'll let me keep the stateroom alone or give me a studio? I am a little nervous going alone, even though I can keep myself good company. Besides the 5-6 p.m. lounge time do they have other ways someone in a stateroom can meet other solo's. I wouldn't mind meeting some people for some dinners, to see shows and such. I don't mind doing them alone but it would be nice with others. What are people's suggestions? I looked in the rollcalls and see none for breakaway 8/24. Thanks!!
Gt.DanesRGR8 Posted July 25, 2014 #780 Share Posted July 25, 2014  WUPPS, guess it me that made the "mis-reading" of his information. So Sorry about that. Hope all goes well on the upcoming cruises ! Ms. B.
wizard-of-roz Posted July 25, 2014 #781 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Hi Everyone, my name is Roz and I cruise with a Service Dog [Horton] so, I guess my "solo" cruising isn't so "solo!" My first Service Dog [brenda] had finished 15 cruises and passed at the age of 14, very contented, I must say! I miss her every day!!!! I'll be onboard the Crown Princess on September 20th for one week up the coast to San Francisco then down to Ensenada. And, on the Golden in April and the Pacific Princess on December 3 for the celebration of the Love Boat, 50 years! I've cruised on a lot of different lines and have settled on Princess. She fits me!!!! I find solo cruising to be so, so relaxing and fun! It's really up to you as to how much you want to do!
California Cruisin' Posted July 25, 2014 #782 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Hi, Roz. And Hi to Horton, too! Does he hear the Who?? My condolences on the loss of your Brenda. It's so hard to lose a trusted friend and helper. 'Must be a very different experience cruising with a service dog. My (now previous) boyfriend has a service dog. Frankly, I may have been more in love with that sweetie, than the human one, as I miss him every moment of every day! My boyfriend did allow people to socialize with "JoBo" at varying levels, depending on the situation and, I must say, that sweet dog brought several new friends to the man! I understand that most do not allow socialization with their service dog while he/she is working. May I ask what your stance is on that? I'm thinking about how that factor would have an affect on your cruising experience. It obviously has been a great experience for you, and for the dog! Perhaps the question is too personal and, if so, I apologize. It would just be interesting to know. I was just on my very first cruise in June and went solo to Alaska. (On the Crown Princess.) I flew from the LOs Angeles area into Anchorage, then Southbound to Vancouver where I stayed an extra few days, visiting Vancouver and Victoria, BC. It was a fantastic time!! Maria[/font'] Hi Maria, Horton does "hear a Who!" I know exactly what you mean about the dog attracting all sorts of folks to you. I have met some of the most wonderful people because of my dogs. First they see the dog, they want to interact with him and then they notice that he's attached to a human. I ALWAYS allow for patting time. Most people will ask if they can "pat" my dog, then they ask his name; how old is he; how long has he worked for me; and, my most favorite question of all; where does he go to the bathroom? Horton is an attention whore. He loves people, especially men [since most of his trainers were men] and children [he will literally wag his tail in circles for children!] Brenda and Horton have enhanced my cruising experience quite a bit. Since my handicap is not visible to the public my Service Dogs bring a lot of curious people my way. I don't mind at all! I like people! And, if they've stopped me to ask a question they obviously are like-minded in the love and respect for the Service Dog. I'm pleased to help the public to be more informed about them and understand all the miraculous things that a Service Dog can do. I always allow for extra time when I'm going from one venue to another onboard a cruise because I know I will be stopped - Honestly, Horton is one handsome dude!!!!! :) Then there's the people who are either afraid of or allergic to dogs and want nothing to do with either one of us. They also make themselves very obvious and we try to stay away from them as much as I can with a 90lb dog! Horton loves everyone and wants to be everyone's friend. Sometimes it takes an extra command on my part to get him to stay back from those who want nothing to do with him! Thank you for your interest. wizard-of-roz Posted July 29, 2014 #791 Share Posted July 29, 2014 hi roz, its nice to see you here!I can't believe we haven't cruised together yet. Hi, I certainly am giving you enough opportunities. I'll be onboard the Crown on Sept. 20th - The Golden on April 6th - The Pacific Princess on December 3rd. Cruising as a solo has surprised me as I never thought I'd do it but since Morey passed and cruising was something we both loved to do, I'm going to continue the tradition. Will be a nice getaway! Sharon, have a wonderful time. Remember, it's all about your attitude. If you look like you're having a miserable time, I promise you, you will spend your cruise feeling miserable. Keep a smile on your face and embrace making new friends or not. Bring a book or magazines that you've always wanted to read. Sit in a lounge and order a fu-fu drink before you know it, you'll be striking up a conversation with someone or just enjoy the "people watching!" Have fun! I's your cruise! :)
