Tura Lura Posted November 28, 2015 #1451 Share Posted November 28, 2015 I'll be going on Royal Carribean's Anthem of the Seas solo in Sept. Looking at the daily compasses- they list solo gatherings, sometimes multiple options in a day ( solo coffee, solo lunch...). I asked if there's a host and was told at least at the lunchtime meetup there's a host at least at the start of the gathering, which is really all that's needed. So I'm curious to compare it to NCL that I went on solo in Oct.
42CruiseCrazy Posted November 28, 2015 Author #1452 Share Posted November 28, 2015 That would be great and even better if they let people who are solos have access to the studio lounge at all times for those who are not in studio cabins. I know some would disagree, but it would have made my cruise even that much better. Access to the Studio Lounge at all times it's not really necessary. IMHO. Solos are invited to attend the get together each evening before dinner regardless of whether they are staying in the studios or elsewhere on the ship. runner2013 Posted November 29, 2015 #1453 Share Posted November 29, 2015 Hello, I will be skipping this year (due to too many concerts and a new piano) but will return next December. I was looking the Escape which would mean flying from PHL to MIA on 12/15 (this would be 5th anniversary of my NCL Epic trip) but am now considering the 8 night 12/18/16 Breakaway from NYC- note there is around a $450 price difference with the Breakaway being greater- which coincidentally could be the margins between NYC and FLA travel charges for me. Is anyone doing either of these? Does the Breakaway one with the 12/18-12/26 one seem more family oriented? Would the 12/17 Escape be a better option for solos? I'm doing the Dec 24th -Dec31st 2016 trip on the Escape.. I have a studio room so I can take advantage of the singles lounge.. I specifically chose this so that I could meet some other singles to hopefully hang out with for the trip. That's what I'm looking for. For you I'd say what is more important?. Price difference, family orientation or access to a lounge where you can meet other singles..Think about what would make you the happiest and then make your decision. Sungold Posted November 29, 2015 #1454 Share Posted November 29, 2015 While I would like the advantages of the solo lounge, etc. I just like having an ocean view or balcony. Also, the solo cabins to me seem kind of claustrophobic. But if there were a big price difference on a cruise I really wanted to go on, I would try it. denatravels Posted November 29, 2015 #1457 Share Posted November 29, 2015 It's ages away but I'll definitely post about it! I will, too-- my trip is in February. Although I tend not to do "solo" gatherings on Royal Caribbean.
mrobstad Posted November 29, 2015 #1458 Share Posted November 29, 2015 Dena, I check them out the first night or two, then I typically go on my own. When I first travelled solo, I was a little more dependent on them, but now I'm comfortable on my own.

Hopefully meet some of ya'll on their! I think you'll have a great time. I've been told the Escape has all of the great amenities (entertainment, bars & restaurants) of the Breakway/Getaway and then some. It's on my wish list for 2017. yamaha dancer Posted December 4, 2015 #1467 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Cruising solo January 31 on NCL Getaway. Would love to read previous solo's opinion on studio cabins on this ship. 42CruiseCrazy Posted December 4, 2015 Author #1469 Share Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) I agree with Mrobstad. Getaway is great ship, same as Breakaway. Did both last year. Studio lounge and solo get-togethers makes the ship experience more fun for solos. Gypsywanab Posted December 4, 2015 #1470 Share Posted December 4, 2015 On Getaway in April and Escape Thanksgiving week. Solo cabin both times. Cabin has very creative plan for storage and you'll need to be a little creative when you unpack but it all works. I'd sail in a Solo again and again unless a balcony were affordable for a particular cruise. Both ships were very similar. Only "complaint" would be in the 678 atrium area with overpowering smell of smoke from the casino and I'm a former smoker. Loved the solo lounge with complimentary combo coffee, espresso, latte, cappuccino machine. Pound cake, pastries, cookies and fruit also available. I prefer solitude so didn't join any solo activities like dinners,, shows, etc. 73 rd birthday was Sunday. Solo is fine for any age.
