Harrison's Cave..a couple of questions

For anybody who has taken the tram into the cave, can you please tell if it is very claustrophobic or is it pretty large and airy?

 

Also, we are thinking about renting a car for the day, how far is the cave from the port?

 

We have never been to Barbados and if anybody has suggestions for the day, please share:D

Harrison's Cave is far from claustrophobic.

 

In many places the ceiling is anything like 20-70 ft. high!!

There's running water all thru the cave (it's a "living" cave, still in the process of being formed!)

so there's lots stuff to take your mind off your mind!

How far?

 

The island is 21 miles long (North to South)

and 14 miles wide (at its widest point)

 

H.Cave is just about slap-bang in the middle of it all

so you will see a fair chunk of the island getting there -and back.

By car (if I'm driving) maybe 20-25 mins. from the Port.

 

With you driving and getting lost :) (intricate road network!) maybe 45 mins.?

Thanks for the info.....I think I can handle the cave then:) I tend to have problems in really closed in places.

 

I guess we will plan time for getting lost:D. But we don't mind. Getting lost sometimes helps you find the best places!

 

We are also thinking of doing a few tours on our own (Mt. Gay and Agapy Chocolate). Along with a short stop at a beach. We love seeing as much of a new place as we can.

Sorry to bump an older thread but I was hoping to add one more question onto the original question.....

 

My daughter has been eyeing the "Harrison's Cave Eco-Adventure" excursion through the ship. She is an avid rock-climber but the description worried her as it's vaguely worded as "difficult" with another vague "Guests should be physically fit."

 

How "fit" would one need to be? She's young, she's active and I would consider her physically fit. Do you know how "difficult" this would be?

If you haven't seen it already, this is a description provided by Harrison's:

 

Tour Requirements

Participants should be 16 years and over and

physically fit. You will be required to crawl, stoop,

climb and navigate obstacles for up to a distance of

one mile. This activity is not recommended for

persons who are pregnant, have heart, knee or back

problems, are hearing impaired have suffered

debilitating injuries or are under the influence of

alcohol or drugs. A complete change of clothes and

toiletries is required (including shoes, towel, soap,

plastic bag). Time spent with us is 4 hours

inclusive of pre and post tours activities. (tour

duration 3 hours)

 

If your daughter is fit and can handle rock climbing, I doubt that this should pose a problem for her.

Thanks for the response, Fouremco! I honestly think she'll be fine. If I was to hazard a guess, I'd guess that they make the write up more intense than it is in reality. Just to discourge folks from thinking it's a walk in the park. (Folks like me! ha ha!)
