Spa on the Oasis

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...

Wondering about the spa facilities on the Oasis. Are there free steam and saunas for use? Or do you have to pay to use them? If so, how much?

Thanks!

I forget the cost, but the steam and sauna facilities on Oasis and Allure are not free. We checked into it on Allure, and I believe they quoted some sort of week long access cost that was over $100. This was 2 years ago, so it might be different now.

Thank you Bob... :D

Anyone else with some info on this?

We did the couples' weeklong package on our Oasis cruise and were largely disappointed with the thermal suite. The cost was around $200 total for the couples' package for the week. The sauna and steam room are small and feel very crowded with more than 3 people in them. Whoever designed the space messed up. The rooms are odd-shaped, and it was not possible to sit in some of the spots in the steam room because of where the steam jets come out--your legs would be scalded if you didn't move in time! And there were support columns taking up space in these as well. I don't recall there being a water source or bucket in the sauna for pouring. I'm pretty sure it was a dry sauna only. There is also an aromatherapy room, which is basically a cooler steam room into which the staff would occasionally squirt something to give it a scent.

This is in contrast to Voyager and Freedom class ships, which have wonderful, separate (and free!) facilities in the men's and women's locker rooms. They are spacious, and you most certainly can pour water on the rocks in the steam rooms--they provide a water source, bucket, and ladle. I'm given to understand that some of the smaller classes of ships have separate facilities, too.

On Oasis and Allure, you are required to wear a bathing suit in the thermal suite because it is mixed sexes. Apart from it just being gross sitting in a wet bathing suit in a sauna/steam room, often you would end up with couples sitting in there and gabbing away to each other, disturbing the peace and quiet one would want in there. Often the spa attendants would bring tours or individuals through the thermal suite, talking loudly, and invariably they would open the doors to the sauna/steam room and look inside, letting the heat out and disturbing the occupants.

What the thermal suites have that the others do not are the heated ceramic loungers and the specialty showers. These are nice, but also have a few issues as well. Because there were no robe hooks or places to put towels when we were on Oasis, people ended up leaving these on the loungers, so you had to move someone's things if you wanted to use one (awkward). And the showers (mist, rainfall, waterfall, etc.) had nice effects, but got very hot very quickly and often unexpectedly. You couldn't get cold or even cool water, so if you wanted to cool off, you had to leave the thermal suite and walk back across the hall to the locker room for a shower. There is no cold plunge or other cool-down option inside the thermal suite.

If you are not used to using saunas/steam rooms and want to try, this might be okay for you. The facilities look very nice, but the noisiness and some of the other issues stated above are reasons we generally avoid Oasis/Allure. But since we wanted to try Allure anyway (our next cruise), we'll get the thermal suite package again because there is no other option for sauna/steam, and that is a big part of our cruise experience.

These ships have the couples PAY steam room only. They do not have the steam room and sauna in the dressing rooms for either sex in the gym as on other classes of ships. You often see this referred to as the Persian Garden where and there is a daily or weekly charge for this facility. Many Celebrity Ships have also begun using this revenue producer in place of the facilities available to use for payment of your Cruise Fare. I think you will notice how the add-ons are becoming more and more a source of revenue as in the airline industry. Looking forward to our next cruise.
