Suggestions on what to do??

We have been to Dominica a few times and we usually do the island tour and end up at the very crowed falls.

 

I dont think the town is really all that nice to explore......

 

So does anyone who has been there recently have nay suggestions on what we could do for the day. I would like to see the falls but all the pre-touring is kind of a waist.

 

Is there anywhere worth snorkeling or anything else we could do while there on our cruise.

You could always just grab a cab when you get off the boat and have them take you direct to some falls - there are many on the Island so they might be able to take you to ones that the tour buses do not hit.

 

Also consider going to the hot springs or up to Papillotte for lunch/tour - http://www.papillote.dm/

 

For snorkeling the best area to hit is Scotts head marine reserve - you would have to take a cab to get to it - might be a tour on your boat that offers it. If not Dive Dominica does - http://www.divedominica.com/snorkeling/

If you like VERY active tours, then Canyoning is one of my favorites; you're rappelling down/jumping off of the waterfalls as you make your way through a slot canyon.

The snorkelling tour may be interesting for us. What is the approximate cost and time to get to Scott's head Marine Reserve?

This is our fist visit to Dominica as well. Is there much to see near the terminal or a falls that is close by?

The River Tubing on the Layou River and Beach tour is great fun & great value. A stop at the Mero Beach is great for local lunch and beach relaxation time. Best spot on the beach is the private beach restaurant Romance Cafe. Advance reservation is recommended with Antours Dominica. This tour is not available on the ship and must be booked privately.

Mero beach looks very intriguing with all that black sand. Very beautiful and including the destination of Romance Cafe is a good idea. Tripadvisor reviews are very good for this artsy beach cafe. Thanks again for suggestion.

Any idea of cost for taxi fare from dock to Mero Beach?

Two weeks ago we did a tour of the reef that we arranged directly with Champagne Reef Dive and Snorkel.

Price was less than 1/2 what the ship charged and we had a private tour just for the two us us with Andrew. It was awesome. Tour included drive to/from, snorkel equipment, tour guide and a free drink.

Cost was $33 pp since we had our own snorkel gear - not much more - maybe $5 ? - if you didn't.

It was amazing to snorkel over the volcanic vents.

 

Clem and Lucy Johnson are the owners and are as nice as can be.

Please can someone tell me if---champagne reef and Mero Beach are in the same area??? I am thinking of taking the city bus to these location but need some more information. Please can someone tell me what bus fare is to here and how to get the bus.
