I am not a smoker, but I would not mind.

it's not allowed., so yes i would make staff aware of the issue.

As far as Princess goes:

"Electronic Cigarettes

The use of electronic cigarettes is permitted in all areas onboard with the exception of dining areas and the Princess Theater. However, should a fellow passenger in the vicinity feel inconvenienced and complain, even after being told the difference between electronic cigarettes and real cigarettes, we will ask the passenger to refrain from smoking the electronic cigarette."

Let me see if I've got this straight...if a person uses a scented e-cig in an 'approved' setting, some of you will still complain because you might get a whiff of it???:rolleyes:

Heck, if that's true, we'd all better leave our perfume, scented bath soap, scented hair products, etc., at home the next time we cruise, lest we offend someone...

LOL!!! Good idea! :) And don't forget to bring breath fresheners tho ..... I've been close to people eating a lot of garlic and got a 'wiff' and DON'T forget the SMELL of

ALCOHOL .... lots of people literally STINK of that ..... maybe next time I should complain and see if I can get that banned???!! LOL!!! Some people will go to ANY length to control others, I swear!

it's banned in my book. your definition may vary. this is especially true on those lines that ban smoking on balconies. you may get someone deciding that because they are are not a fire hazard or produce obnoxious odors they can get away with bending the rules.

doesn't matter.

Well, now it seems the 'bending' is on the 'topic' ..... the post about 'they are not banned' stated they could be used anywhere smoking is allowed, not on lines that specifically state no smoking on balconies. However, that being said, if as other posters stated and I've found true in my experience, 'if' there is an odor it is a quick 'whiff' that almost immediately disappears. That being said, are you going to crank your neck over your balcony to 'police' someone next door that might just be enjoying a vanilla or coffee shake, just to 'make sure' they are following your rules if you get (which I doubt you would) a quick 'whiff' of something????!!! LOL!! Checking up on what others are doing is too much work for me when I'm trying to enjoy my OWN vacation instead of policing others, LOL!

FYI, the e-cigs are not allowed on Celebrity ships. I was surprised when I read that in the daily newsletter.

That surprises me too .... not even where smoking is allowed, as I understood that there are places one can smoke, not many, but some? Is this written anywhere when looking into cruising Celebrity so the person booking would know? Just curious :)

I think the OP is misinterpreting the Celebrity policy. Their policy makes the policy for electronic cigarettes the same at for regular cigarettes, for indoor public areas. Here is the policy from their FAQ.

"Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator, or corridor. This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda."

The wording of that is such that some could have a field day with it! :) You stated 'indoor public areas' which is exactly how I interpreted it, since they qualify with the 'includes smoke-like products such as electronic cigarettes'. And, that's fine, their rule, I respect that and it makes sense to me for a lot of the reasons stated before (staff trying to keep everyone happy, etc.). But, then they state no smoking inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda but 'neglect' to include the statement about the e-cig. Seems to me that people would then think, well, since it's not 'smoking' and I'm in my space, not only, why not, but since you can't smell it, it leaves no residue ... who would know? Unless of course you have people who spend more time checking on others than enjoying their own vacation, that might get a 'whiff' for just a second, so they will lean over the balcony 'to check on what others are doing and police/report them'??!! LOL!! Could get interesting! LOL!!:)

They likely wrote it that way on purpose. If an electronic cigarette does not leave an oder or residue in rooms that requires the room to be cleaned they would not care. If none reports an oder from a verandah from an electronic cigarette they would not know. I don't see that such private use would be an issue for them as long as it is unknown.

At this point I think policies on electronic cigarettes are at an evolving stage because not many use them, and health studies on their effect on users and on effects of exposure to vapor are few so far, or not completed. To me the article I posted the link for from the American Medical Association Journal is a good summery for now.

Recently found out most of the flavoring cartridges are made in china. Not sure if I would want to inhale something made in china, but I guess it's better than the alternative.

I just looked up the V2 ecig and the only thing 'made in China' is the electronic battery part, as are SO many of our electronics here in the states. Everything else is in FL or CA.

A friend of mine finally quit using the eCig. He was so happy because he'd tried everything. Now he has a little eCig shop. He tells me: Even with the best, some of the scent is bound to get out when you exhale, but there won't be ANY smoke. That means none of the stuff which damages your lungs from breathing smoke. They also won't set off any smoke alarms and don't use flames. That doesn't mean they are harmless, as you're still breathing stuff into your lungs.

He also thinks the scent exhaled might set off a person who is very sensitive to perfumes or possibly dyes but should be much less likely to do so than wearing strong cologne might be. I'm thinking it is this issue which has caused the cruise line to throw them into the pot with regular smoking. Personally, I've go no problem with people using the eCigs wherever, and especially not in their own cabin.

Hubby and I walked past a man smoking an e-cig on the Prominade of a ship. He was perfectly within his rights where he was located. But we both mentioned the chemical smell around him. It definitely didn't smell like smoke. Actually it was more like bad or stale perfume.

We were both surprised by this because we thought one of the advantages of e-cigarettes was the lack of odor and the so-called harmlessness of the water vapor.

If an e-cig is only water vapor I might not mind, but if I were in a restaurant with someone whose e-cig put out that chemical smell, I would be opposed to it.

Chemical smells offend you? Are you kidding me??? Remind me not to stand next to you since most things such as deodorant, perfumes, colognes, shampoos and soaps are made with chemicals.
