Are our balcony rooms going to be over certain areas?

We have already booked our two connecting balcony cabins, rooms 6355 and 6361 on the Magic. I asked the Carnival person booking the cruise if there are any specific issues I might need to be concerned about in that location- she said no.

I have found deck plans, but am wondering if you know a link where it show the outside of the ship or moreso- where each balcony room is located- if it is below or above anything? The reasons I ask are:

1) We like privacy. We like to spend a good deal amount of time on the balcony. We also start off every morning out there. The only other line I have sailed with- there was nothing directly below or above our rooms. I am reading that some of the balconies on Magic might not be private because hot-tub goers can see in your room? Is that correct?

2) I am allergic to cigarette smoke- some more than others. Sometimes it is so bad, I will get a very fast on-coming migraine that will last for 3 days or more. Like a trip-ruining, shut the door, can't walk until it goes away migraine. And I am not a whiny person who can't deal with pain. If I am in pain like that- I seriously cannot move until it goes away.

I know no one can control if fellow balcony passengers will be smokers and am not knocking them, but if I can avoid our balcony being over the hot-tubs or areas that are specifically smoking designated, then I will.

I appreciate it! I am enjoying reading all the tips on here and trip reports. I can't wait until our cruise!:)

no you booked the wrong room for you particular set of preferences.

deck 6 is just above the lanai deck, so you will look down at that, and potentially people in hot tubs and whatever is associated with that. i have not even referenced your specific room yet because i do not think it is fitting with your preferences, but, no!

if you have such concerns with smoke, you'd be better suited booking spa category balcony staterooms, as no smoking is allowed in that category or on that deck.

i think that would be a better fit for you given expectations and requirements.

As per the deck plan you will be very near a spa and only one level above it. Also you appear to be above the casino, so if smoke is an issue you may want to rethink these rooms.

Thanks for the tips so far. I looked into spa rooms, but we wanted connecting rooms with balconies that have removable dividers. Plus, the spa rooms were a good deal more costly. But I will look into it- thanks!

I knew the deck wraps around on the Magic but I certainly don't want to be right over where we can't have privacy or enjoy ourselves.

Trying to get you a link that works. Really neat for comparing what is above and below you. Tried it and this appears to work. It is a link to a pdf file from Carnival

you also need to be aware that the balconies in front of you and beside you could be smoking balconies. Personally, we book balconies so my husband can have a cigar or two and I smoke. While I would try not to bother those in balconies around me, we book for our comfort and our wants and needs. I would want to enjoy my balcony as much as the next person and sitting on my balcony reading, talking, sunning is my enjoyment while at sea and a few drinks and smoking are part of it. Unfortunately I would not be accommodating should my neighbor ask me not to smoke. After all, I have paid a premium for my preferences as have you.

I feel the same way. I would not deliberately sit out there and become a human smokestack, but with smoking restrictions, we have little alternative. I especially notice this on ships with Guy burgers where our smoking side of Lido has disappeared. That's where a great deal of time was spent. The options for a non smoker are almost limitless, including other lines.

Just noticed where you're from! Me too. OHS grad (years ago).

Looking at a Drag Deck feature on a pay website it looks like your cabins are above the Hat Trick Bar and FunHub. They are open very late and you may hear some noise. You will also look down on the Lanai - not a great view.

If you want a quiet cabin location make sure that you have passenger cabins above and below you. We've been on the Magic twice with a 3rd trip coming up in 13 days and have booked spa balcony cabins on all 3 cruises. Love it up there- quiet and best of all NO SMOKE!

Cruisedeckplans has drag-able decks. Just go there, select your ship, then down at the very bottom left you'll see the link. The decks aren't always scaled exactly right, but if you line up elevator banks, it's quite easy to see what is above and/or below you.

On deck 6 you won't have much privacy at all. People walking on the Lanai on deck 5 will be right beneath you. We had an aft wrap on deck 6 last year, and carried on conversations with several people out walking on deck 5, many of them with questions about our large balcony. So, this year we booked deck 8 in order to get a bit more privacy (a little farther up and away from the lanai). And as others have mentioned, the folks on the balcony next to yours can smoke all that they wish. The only way to avoid smokers is to book as far forward as possible, and there is no guarantee that the passengers in the cabin beneath yours won't smoke either. Good luck avoiding smoke, sorry that it bothers you so badly. That is the reason my sister won't cruise with me, it makes her sick also.

Thanks for everyone's replies. :) I don't want to start a smokers vs non-smokers thread. I simply stated where OUR comforts lie and why WE book a balcony as we have the right to sit out there and enjoy ourselves too.

I, in no way, again, would infringe upon any smoker's right to smoke on their balcony. I wouldn't ask them to not smoke, etc. I cannot help my condition, trust me, I've tried- breathe through my mouth, drink caffeine when I don't want to in order to prevent the headache from coming on....but I also won't not vacation either. Like I said- some cigarette smoke doesn't bother me- others make me nauseous.

If I am correct, the starboard side of the Magic is smoking, correct? We are currently also on that side. I guess the lady at Carnival wasn't listening. I also found out she didn't enter information correctly which accidentally cancelled our reservations! (Although somehow, someone caught the mishap and put us back in those rooms.)

I was having internet issues here today and tried that pay website, but the Paypal link wouldn't work, but finally got it to working so I will call Carnival tomorrow and see if we can get switched to at least one floor up. I want to be able to look out on the water so we may possibly have to not have connecting rooms and spit out another $1,000 just so we won't have people peering in. (I finally found a video on youtube this lady was taking from Deck 5 and not only could you see right into some of the balconies, but could see the beds as well. There goes our open door, 'nekked' escapades...LOL!)

Thanks again for all the tips!:)

Oh and Jifner- I'm a Jifner too! My sister used to call me that when we were little. :D

I don't know if starboard side is smoking or not on Magic.

But it won't matter as far as balconies go since smoking is allowed on balconies on both sides of the ship. Unless you're in a Cloud 9 Spa balcony.

I hope you get it all sorted so you can enjoy your cruise.

Understood about the smoking on balconies...I meant, if we can't change our rooms, she booked us not only over a bar (I even asked if we were over something like that!), but she also (possibly) put us over the lanai area where additional smoking is allowed on that side of the ship particularly.

I won't let it ruin our vacation Kenmo- thank you!:) As long as I know ahead of time how things will be I can prepare accordingly (ear plugs and headache medicine). :D

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe your balcony partitions open. While the cabins are connecting, some of the balcony partitions don't open. I found this out when trying to book Dream balconies. Our friend's balcony opens to ours, but their cabin has a connecting door to a different cabin.

Try this link to see if it works. If you are able to access the link, click on the fleet, look for the Magic, stateroom cabins, and find your deck, and then the stateroom information.

what you do not see on the deck plan is a band that sets up across from the casino bar and plays starting at 9pm. Your cabin is directly above that area.

you will get much noise if you go to be before 1am

move now while your choices are available

Move up to Empress deck-- better choice

Well, what I meant was that she was putting us over a public area (the lanai and promenade area) where (I think) smoking is allowed. But not all balconies are allowed smoking- spa balconies are non-smoking. :)

Yeah, I am going to call to try to switch our rooms. I am thinking the lady who answered the phone might be new.

Thanks again!

... I would definitely want to be above deck 6. We had a balcony on deck 6 on the Dream, and the people in the ELEVATED hot tubs on the Lanai deck could see right into our room. No privacy whatsoever. We would never book below 8 again on a Dream class of ship.

I switched our rooms to cove balconies that partition to one another. I think we'll be much happier there. Plus, we plan on getting of the ship pretty much as early as possible when we port- this will help to. (No need to wait for the elevators.) Our last cruise, we used the stairs a lot instead of waiting for elevators. (Worked off some of that food!)

Thanks so much for this board! We prefer a little more privacy and we don't hang out there to get sun. Will be cool to be that close to the water. (My husband says we should bring some deep-sea fishing rods- lol!) ;)

So thankful for everyone's tips! I don't think we would have been as pleased in our original rooms and y'all were right- the original rooms did NOT have connecting balconies like we were told. Got that fixed now. :D

I agree. We were above the nightclub on our last cruise and we could hear the thumping of the music, even with the tv on. If you have any light sleepers you should rethink your room choice.
