jocelysue Posted July 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2013 Information please. So far when we've cruised on Princess we've been able to book junior suites which we absolutely loved. However the prices of these cabins seem to have gone up exponentially so we can no longer afford their cost especially as we take long cruises. Why don't we settle for shorter cruises? Because we always have to pay high airfares to get to port so the cruise has to be lengthy enough to justify the cost. Plus, most important of all, DH has mobility issues and finds it very difficult changing planes, etc. Because of his health issues he often needs to rest in the afternoon and lie down on the bed. No problem in a junior suite where there is a sofa for me to sit on should I choose to remain in the cabin..If we used twin beds there most likely wouldn't be a big problem. However, we use a queen or king size configuration also for health reasons. HAL offers sofas in mostly all of its cabins which is one reason we often cruise on it in anoutside cabin. It would seem that Princess does not offer a siiting area even in its balcony cabins.Friends who have travelled in balcony cabins have told us this is the case Is this so in all Princess ships or only in one category? There are some interesting itineraries we would like to book . I realise we could book a balcony cabin and I could sit there butit' s rather cold in the North Atlantic and wet when it rains. Unless the balconies are covered? Your info and suggestions will be most welcome.
Rare Cruise Junky Posted July 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2013 You need to book either a Mini Suite for a sofa (on most ships) or a Deluxe Balcony cabin on Royal/Regal.
caribill Posted July 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2013 Many balcony cabins on the Ocean Princess and the Pacific Princess have a sofa.
Pam in CA Posted July 28, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2013 Princess Grand-class cabins are about the same size as HAL cabins but they are laid out differently. The "living" area is smaller (no couch, just a chair and small table) but there's a large open closet area that doubles as a dressing area. Princess cabins have much more storage space and drawer space than HAL ships. This is true of all balcony cabins. The balconies are covered except for those on Caribe deck which are much larger and are half-covered, half-uncovered. Mini-suites on Princess Grand-class ships are larger and have a full-sized couch, 2nd TV and larger bathroom with tub/shower. They are similar in size to a "Deluxe Verandah" on HAL ships and are not true suites. No perks other than a glass of (bad) sparkling wine at sailaway. Here are some photos.
