Fantasy questions/ Charleston questions

I have been on the Fantasy but its been awhile.

Does it have hair dryers?

Is this the ship that using another key card for the room key instead of your sail and sign card?

Does the ship have sushi and if so where?

Does the Charleston port have Platinum embarkation?

When was it last dry docked?

Thanks

No Fantasy class ships have hair dryers except in suites, or refrig's

Ive never heard of a ship that requires a 2nd card for your key card, but I dont know how long ago you cruised. I have never heard of it since 2006.

It did get waterworks so it has been dry docked. I usually go to cruisedeckplans and look up when it was dry docked, but they made it harder to find. Sorry.

I was just on the Fantasy last week and it no longer has the sushi bar by the casino. It is the Taste Bar now. It has little bites of food on sea day evenings. The only sushi we found was offered in the dining room one night as a starter.

When I sailed on the Imagination in 2007 it had a separate card for the door key.

I was on her for a B2B last October and sailed again in early May. I could see no differences after the dry dock, but she looked like she was in fine shape back in October.

Didn't realize the sushi bar was no longer the sushi bar. But I understand that sushi is now available in the buffet. I did see it there in May as well as having the sushi bar.

I love sushi, and what you get on the ship will do if that's the only time you ever get to eat it!

I'm staying pre-cruise at the Hampton Inn West Ashley mainly because I stayed there last time and had GREAT sushi at the Japanese restaurant next door.

Here's a useful thread. I'd start reading backwards in time, since I started it a few years ago.

Couple of quick quesions about Fantasy. Are the cabin doors metal such that magnets will stick? And do the safes use a card or a number pad? I have been on several fantasy class ships and I think this varies among them. Thanks!

I didn't think the doors were metal because they looked like "wood" but in December I was able to stick several magnets to our door. I was surprised!

The safes we have had on the last 3 sailings have been number pad and are located in the closet.

There are 3 reviews linked below in my signature if you are interested in reading them.

The reviews are for a 6 day sailing (that they no longer offer) a 5 day sailing and the 7 day sailing.

Thanks All4fun. I have read all your reviews previously and just love them. I wish I could tell a story like you do. Hubby and I have sailed on 4 fantasy class ships and once out of Chas in 2010. We have always cruised just the 2 of us but in October we are taking a big family cruise with 17 of us! I am ready to get crazy with it! Most of my family haven't cruised before so I am trying to get information together for them. I have bought us all matching lanyards and personalized backpacks and just bought white boards to put on our doors so we can leave notes, etc. The white boards have a magnet on the back so it sounds like it will work! I also got some over door organizers because we have several cabins with 3 or 4 people. and I bought some of those tealight candles that are battery operated for nightlights. I thought that was pretty clever and an original idea on my part, but I saw an old post of yours last night where you said they looked at that pretty hard when you had one in your carry on! Darn! It wasn't original after all! I should have known you would have thought of that!

I live in Charlotte but am from Moncks Corner and my whole family lives there. Everyone is excited about leaving from Charleston!

Thanks again for the info.

I will be writing another review for this Halloween Cruise as well. It will be a totally different story since I am leaving The Andrew behind and sailing with my girls!

I sailed her last October and encountered my first hurricane.

We missed Freeport on Leg 1 and HMC on Leg 2. DD & her new hubby were on the 7-nighter specifically to go to HMC (it would've been my 6th stop) and I'd even reserved a cabana.

Oh well. Weather happens!

Honestly, it was just as rough (if not worse) the night we sailed on 5/3 that it was from the hurricane. You just never know.

I decorated the doors for both cabins in October, but I just brought a roll of tape.

Thanks everyone. I have been on the Imagination, maybe that is where I had to use a separate key. I have never been a sushi person but had it on the Fascination recently and it was good. I guess I will have to search high and low for it.

We were on the Fantasy in April and didn't have to search high and low for the sushi. They brought it out every evening in the buffet area as they were sitting up the salad bars. On the round stations on each side of the salad bar that they put desserts on. We always waited on the Serenity Deck and would take turns running up the stairs to see if the sushi was out yet. I think it may have been around 5pm or so.....not the greatest sushi but we love sushi and we enjoyed it!

There are no hair dryers standard in the cabins, but if you ask your cabin steward for one, they will bring you one.

I read someone post recently that they did that and they were all gone already.

I have short hair and it's very fine so most hair dryers are actually too strong for me. But I just bring a small travel one. It lives in my rolling duffle bag that's always half-packed and ready to cruise.

Yes, I saw the sushi one evening on the side tables, where they have the desserts at lunch. I tend to just do deli sandwiches for lunch but I do sometimes peruse the offerings. You know, just in case I really need more to eat! :p

Looking forward to trying the Taste Bar soon!

Don't know if the Platinum embarkation question from OP was answered. Don't see one.

Charleston does NOT have a separate security line but once through, you head to the line on the left that goes all the way along the front of the building and to the last couple of check-in folks. If there are no VIP people waiting to check in, they'll check-in others, so I've had to wait in the past, but not for more than a few minutes. I've been there fairly early but was able to head straight onto the ship (skipping the embarkation photo).

First time, went up the stairs, got your S&S photo taken, then down the long metal walkway and boarded on Deck 3 (the one where you disembark in port). Next time (on the B2B), we headed up the long metal walkway and boarded on Empress in the lobby area. In May, we were back to boarding on Deck 3.

Not sure why they changed it. It was a long haul to enter on Empress. Maybe too many people complained (seems like no one is willing to walk any farther than from their chairs to the table these days). I rather like entering a ship into the Lobby. Oh well. They didn't ask for my input before they changed it! :p
