Catalina Island - April-September

Recommended Posts

So are you saying since some of the roads have been closed off, is is still worth taking the golf carts out, or would we be better just walking around? We really want to get our "money's worth" if you get my drift? Of course I guess we could drive very slow, and make up the time difference that way. We don't mind walking, but really want to see as much as we can of Catalina Island.

The first time we rented a cart we loved it. The second time not so much but maybe with more roads open the issues of traffic would be mitigated and that bus that almost crushed us  might not have happened...then again who knows...

Instead of renting a golf cart you could take the trolley around on both routes.

There's a trolley? I'd go for it.

:)

We were lucky to be the first onboard. The driver was very good on her history and stories of Avalon. When more passengers boarded it become simply transportation.

The Cross Channel (Catalina Express) Boat terminal is the Grey Pier. Descanso Beach is on the other side of the Casino.

Here's the map for the trolley.

Are you going to Catalina on a Cruise? I didn't think the Coastal cruises included Catalina anylonger... Oh, the Golden is doing short 4 day cruises so maybe you are doing one of those?

Carnival goes there once a week on the Inspiration 4 day cruise. When the Imagination comes to the Long Beach, it will also be doing the same 3 and 4 day cruises. Princess has a few 4 day cruises which go to Catalina.

We are on the Carnival Miracle the first week of October and we'll stop in Catalina. Looking forward to it -

It's a fun quaint place to explore even if you don't leave the downtown area. And if it's your first stop and you forgot something vital they have an actual drugstore. I speak from experience. :o

Oh you said the road is open and if we do the golf carts we could go around Mt. Ada and along the water, that sounds great. :) Hopefully it will SHOW on the map if we rent the golf carts, or will we just "know" that we will be going that way?

Are you able to get off at one of the stops and then get back on another trolley that comes along later?

The trolley is Avalon's bus system. There are a total of 2 trolleys. One for each route.

The map above shows the stops. If you want to go to multiple stops, then I suggest getting an all day pass for $7.

We've used it to go up to the Botanical Garden and back. And we have taken it just to take a tour of the town.
