Rare Lois R Posted August 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Hi, I got home last Sunday from a cruise to Bermuda and want to know if I one of you "locals" know if this is usual...... 1) I got off the ship without any issues and was asked If I wanted to share a van with others to Newark Airport for 16.00 each. I said yes. There were some other folks in the van and the driver said we would leave in a few minutes......well, at least 10/15 minutes went by and I got out of the van and went to the driver...now he says they must have 8 in the van and we only had 6. He didn't know how long it would be before we left....... I told him to please get my luggage out and I would take a taxi....I find one and before he leaves 3 others from the van got out and wanted to share my taxi (fine with me) saves the 4 us $. Driver gets out of the cab and says his boss said NO.....that unless we were traveling together he would not take them:eek::confused:.....give me a break...we were all going to the airport. I guess I should have gotten out of the cab and gotten my luggage and gone over to the 3 of them so we could have saved money and gotten a cab together. Is this the normal procedure from Bayonne? They make their own rules for how many people can go in a cab? We could have fit 4. 2nd time this has happened to me. Next time I will just spend the extra money on a car service...the cab was 48.00 plus tip.

I couldn't find a listing for a Bayonne taxi commission(or similar)...and if there isn't one they can indeed make up their own rules. Taxis in NJ are much more expensive for similar mileage runs than NYC where it is highly regulated. FWIW

bayonnejoe Posted August 18, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Hi, thanks for the reply. Moot point now since I am home. Should I sail from there again I will at least know how they conduct business:rolleyes: Welcome to Bayonne. SOP for debark day. You would not believe how long we wait to get a ride from the port for just a five minute hop to our house. We use one of the local companies all the time for trips to EWR and the like, but on debark day, they act like they don't even know us, opting for the far more lucrative jaunts to JFK, LGA, and Philly. He wouldn't let us share a cab:rolleyes:.....I just didn't think quickly enough. I really should have gotten out of the cab.
