NCL Shareholder Credit Change

For any CAS comps... they will not combine it. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Denied.

.

Well, no need for me to purchase NCL stock then!

I've had no issues using Royal Caribbean (Royal and Celebrity) or Carnival stock on casino/comped sailings. It would seem that they don't want to discourage people in that way. They aren't sweating the little stuff like NCL apparently does.

I just sent in the paperwork for my four upcoming cruises - I have existing NCL-provided OBC for three of the four cruises, so I only expect to get the Shareholder Benefit for one of them, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I agree that the lack of combinability is a real issue here. I suppose I'll wait and see!

We received a phone call today that our application has been denied because of the AARP discount. Hoping they will start to reconsider this soon….

Oh wow. Didn't realize it wouldn't combineable with AARP discounts - how short-sighted.

An update on my four:

  • No response yet on my upcoming Gem Cruise (I expect a denial due to existing OBC)
  • Received the $50 OBC on the C2N in January
  • Was denied on my August 2014 Breakaway Cruise due to existing OBC
  • Received an additional $30 in OBC on our December 2014 Epic cruise (we had $70 in existing OBC from the DASH sale and they changed that to the $100 I was eligible for with the Shareholder Benefit)

So that means that so far, I've been granted a net gain of $80 in Shareholder Benefit OBC. Better than nothing, but I sure wish they'd reward shareholders with combineable OBC.

I corresponded by email with NCL trying to argue my case with the share holder credit. Our upcoming NCL Gem cruise was booked through USAA and basically any cruise booked through USAA counts as a promotion since they are cheaper than anywhere else.

So basically the only way to get the credit would be to pay full price for a cruise. I really do not think anyone would do that so pretty much a worthless offer.

I think the stock will do okay though - NCL is winning a lot of folks over.

Does anyone know if its combinable with BOA NCL credit card OBC benefits?

It "should" but why bother? Just take the BOAL Worldpoints into cash. Example - I'd rather convert the points to $100 cash towards my statement balance with a few mouse-clicks on the BOA website, rather than try to call some 800 number and get the points converted into $100 OBC applied to my cruise and go through that hassle?

Got my $100 OBC! Woohoo!

Had booked a great 9 day oceanview at a bargain for $550/pp when there was no OBC offer and watching the price like a hawk since. The same cabin keeps rising and is now $300/pp more. No way any new OBC offer or sale will ever beat that.

2 cruises this year x $100 = $200 / (100 shares at $31) = 6.4% return.

3 cruises next year, 9.6% return

I own exactly 100 shares. NCL's fundamentals are questionable but I already own Royal and Carnival by virtue of my retirement mutual fund that holds them (like many people). NCL on the other hand isn't in my fund's portfolio so I just see it as diversifying :p

Does this mean I should be checking for what stocks are owned in our mutual funds for our 401K accounts, or do these need to be purchased separately to be able to show as proof? Thanks in advance!

Interesting. But I don't believe owning a stock through a mutual fund entitles you to any stockholder benefits. What I meant was that owning NCL stock is not a big risk IMO because if you own a retirement mutual fund, you probably already own other cruiseline stock such as CCL/RCL. It doesn't add much risk. I think the individual stock must be purchased separately through a brokerage account. I then emailed a copy of the brokerage statement to NCL.

Kylenyc,

Thanks! I was just thinking I knew we had shares of a few mutual funds, and it would be great if it worked on Carnival or NCL, but I guess I will have to wait until I can just open an E-trade account or something.....thanks!

I rushed out and purchased it for the perks. I made my reservation with my TA and she used a New York state resident discount. I also received a rejection for my OBC. The only way to get my $100.00 credit wad to pay $40.00, which I did and now I have $60.00 OBC.

I bought RCCL stock years ago when I cruised with Celebrity and made the money back several times over.

And to add insult to injury, my cruise has price has dropped $300.00. I have a Handicapped room and the only upgrade available would be to a balcony, which I would have to pay much more money for, if one was available.

I agree with most of you and have had it with owning NCL stock. They should have put some "shareholder friendly" thought into this stuff before opening it up for sale.

I'm leaving on the EPIC and was REALLY upset that I couldn't get the OBC as a shareholder. They said it was because of what I paid for the cruise. The cost was given to me by my TA...not NCL, and my OBC came from the TA as well. I am receiving $0 OBC.

If they decide to add the OBC "later" or "soon" it's not going to help me any, so that's why we're dumping our stock right after the first of the year. I'm convinced that NCL doesn't care about their shareholders as much as the other guys, so I'll sell my 100 shares and reinvest it in another cruise line where they consider the OBC a way of saying thanks for investing in our future.

What is the usual timeframe to hear a decision on the Shareholder credit? I emailed my paperwork in the end of last month and have not heard anything yet. I fully expect to get the OBC denied based on other promos on my booking, but at least hoping to get a comped dinner out of it.

Thanks in advance

About a week. Last week was a holiday week so they are probably playing catch up. I'd send a follow up call / email / fax if you don't hear from them in another few days inquiring about the status of your request.
