Rare LHT28 Posted September 4, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2013 You can see it from Horizons or on the deck above the pool You want to wander from side to side to get different views of the transit I guess the Spa deck would work as well if you have free access not matter where you go others will already be there ;) Enjoy Lyn
JimandStan Posted September 4, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2013 If you want to be inside (i.e. in an air conditioned space) during the transit, you will want to be in Horizons (which is really the Observation Lounge). Outside, views are best from deck 16 forward (i.e. the roof of Horizons) or the jogging track on Deck 15 Aft (i.e around the base of the funnel) Neither of those last two spaces are served by elevators, however, so most people will settle for the Deck 14 Terrace surrounding the Pool Cut-out

Your best bet is to go later in the day when the early arrivals are tired, hungry, hot or have simply seen enough, and decide to leave the area. The complete passage takes a full day so you will have ample opportunity to get a good view of the action at some point.
G&G Posted September 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Suggestions please on the best public place to enjoy the Panama Canal on our Marina cruise. Since you are from California and probably not use to high humidity, the weather through the canal is HOT, Humid and hopefully a few rain showers. The best views are outside and outside the Terrace Cafe offers some shade with the umbrellas.
orchestrapal Posted September 4, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2013 If you can nab an invitation to a cabin with a rear facing balcony do it...... It's the Best!
Tutuma Posted September 4, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted September 4, 2013 If you can nab an invitation to a cabin with a rear facing balcony do it......It's the Best! Thanks to all for your excellent suggestions. We are in 7111 - extended verandah open two sides facing forward. Would that work?
Rare LHT28 Posted September 4, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2013 If you are in a forward facing cabin just stay there
JimandStan Posted September 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Thanks to all for your excellent suggestions. We are in 7111 - extended verandah open two sides facing forward. Would that work? There is good news and there is bad news. Your veranda does have two open sides, but it faces AFT, not forward. Your cabin is at the left end of the Blue line which runs above the name of the ship, which is at the level of the floor of deck 7. You wont have a view towards the front of the ship, but your view of the locks from the Starboard side will be VERY up close and personal. Probably close enough to see the faces of the Canal workers as you pass by. Enjoy your cruise.
brian_uk Posted September 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 4, 2013 After around 20-30 minutes most people become bored and all you have to do is wait until the decks clear. We recently exited Amsterdam and came through the lock there.....no biggie. Brian

JimandStan Posted September 4, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Does that mean we should have less wind? If that is the case...it might be good news/good news! You will definitely experience less of the wind that is created by the forward momentum of the ship, but seeing as vessels move through the Canal at a fairly glacial place, wind wasn't likely to be an issue, anyway.
