Transatlantic on Ocean Princess?

I'm looking at going on a Transatlantic cruise next year on Ocean Princess. Has anyone been on this ship and/or done a Transatlantic on one of Princess' smaller, more intimate ships? Amount of passengers, age range, activities? Thanks for any information.

We did b2b TAs on the Ocean in 2009. Went from NY to Dover and back. Had a wonderful time. It was during the summer so there were some kids, but not a lot. I believe there were enough so they had the kids program.

The rest of the passengers were the usual range of ages for 20's to 80's

I haven't done a transatlantic trip on the Ocean, but we did a 12-day Black Sea cruise on its sister ship, the Pacific Princess, in July. I absolutely LOVED that ship. It's easy-to-navigate, has the best staff ever, and lots to see and do without a lot of glitz. The number of passengers, I believe, is around 600. There were a few teens and younger kids on board, but the smaller ships with the longer itineraries tend to attract an older crowd. I'd say most of the folks on our cruise were over the age of 45, with most of them in their 60s.

I'd cruise anywhere on the Pacific Princess in a heartbeat.

Passenger capacity is approx. 650. We've done several TA's on this and on the Pacific.

We did a transPacific on the Pacific Princess. We said, and many people agreed...Can we talk the captain into turning this ship around and going back to Tahiti? We enjoyed it so much! Looking forward to being on her again for 30 days in Nov and Dec for anothr transatlantic. Mary Jane

Thanks for your responses. PIA, could you add more details, pleeeeeze. I am one who can sit and watch waves all day but DH needs some activities to keep him busy. What activities would there be on a December TA from Rome to Miami--18 days?

You're going to find the same things on the small ships as on the bigger ones, but on a smaller scale. The shows are in a lounge instead of a theater. The dining room is fixed seating instead of a choice of anytime. Bingo pays less because there are less participants. There will always be trivia at least twice each day. I'm sure there will be bridge and of course the small casino will have a bit of action. There's a small fitness center as well as a smaller spa. The shops are there as is the art; all on a smaller scale. What does your husband do on the larger ships?

The best part will be getting from one place to another in three seconds. If you need to go back to your cabin for something, you'll get there a whole lot faster.

BTW, one of our latest TA's was on the Pacific from Athens to FLL in 2011 - November/December, for 31 days. Just before that we had spent 30 days on the Ocean from Rome to Singapore and then flew to Athens. Crazy, but we loved it. And as I recall weather was perfect just about the whole time.

Normally I wouldn't disagree with Pia, but we were on the Ocean Princess in March/April and there were no art auctions (thankfully). It may have been a one cruise anomaly, but it sure was nice.

We were on the Ocean Princess in June for 16 days and we were told that the Art Auctions have been taken off the two smaller ships which was wonderful. No longer are there paintings being stacked all over the place and of course there aren't any Art Auctions. We were thrilled as we felt that the Art Auctions were a big "take"!

By the way, we had the best food we have had for many years on the Ocean and our two waiters in the Dining Room were top class. Also our cabin steward was excellent. Every morning after breakfast we returned to a spotless stateroom. We couldn't fault the ship and we have been on her many times since 2004.

OMG, no more art blocking deck 5? We can actually walk from the restaurant to the theater without blockage? Wonderful! Thanks for disagreeing with me. I appreciate the new information.

We've done a Trans-Pacific on the Pacific Princess and a Trans-Atlantic on the Crown. IMHO, there aren't as many activities on the smaller ships as the larger ones. We really enjoy the art auctions on Princess. We will also miss MUTS. On one occasion the late evening entertainment on the Pacific Princess consisted of a movie, on someone's laptop, in the card room. The poolside music was Opera and instead of a "shot" cart in the afternoon, it was milk and cookies. The pool games in the afternoon are replaced by team napping and the only party will be the one you make yourself. ;) Now having said all of that, we are going on another TA in November, on the Pacific Princess. We will be bringing extra books and our own music. We chose the Pacific, over the Ruby, because of the port offerings, and fewer passengers, but certainly not for the activities.
