orchestrapal Posted September 14, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2013 Several begin at Victoria station which is very close to your hotel. Just Google and then ask your hotel for directions.

dolittle Posted September 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2013 Thanks for the response/ As you stayed @ the hotel any suggestions for restaurants, etc?Comments about the hotel Carole Carole I don't know if you have stayed in hotels in Europe but almost always they are smaller than you may be used to and the lifts are again almost always very small. We did not eat at the hotel. This hotel is in a good spot for sight seeing it is close to many things in what Brits call the city(Westminster). As far as food there were a few good bake shops close buy and a good breakfast spot that had good coffee for less than a pound and some breakfast sandwichs. There was also a pub that had cheap dinners there were good not great but the beer was great. It is also walkable to Victoria station if you are up to it. You enter across the street from the entry to Scotland Yard. If you are taking the subway from the airport there are good directions on the hotels website. It is very close to the tube station.
John Bull Posted September 17, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 17, 2013 The main routes operated by "The Original" and "Big Bus" are virtually identical, they include the same City Cruises boat ride, frequency is very good with both, they cost about the same. "The Original" is probably a little more popular. The one to avoid (if it's still running) is "Golden Tours". They're a very reputable coach tour operator & nothing wrong with the many coach tours that they offer, but they're the new-kid-on-the-block for ho-ho's, they effectively have just one route & frequency is very poor. Big Bus has a stop near Scotland Yard, just a few yards from your hotel. For Original the best bet, though not the nearest, is Lambeth Bridge, a 10-15 min walk from your hotel. The stop after Lambeth Bridge (Original) or Scotland Yard (Big Bus) is Buckingham Gate (both operators) for Buckingham Palace. Folk have to get off if they want to see Buck Palace, because buses aren't allowed past the Palace. So there's a big change-over of passengers there & if the bus or the Buck Gate stop are crowded, you're already on the bus & should be able to move to excellent seats. http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/london/custompage.aspx?id=maps http://www.theoriginaltour.com/tour-information/tour-routes.htm BTW, the pub mentioned by dolittle is probably a Wetherspoon's pub. Food, surroundings & service are pretty basic in Wetherspoon's pubs, but good value - we choose better elsewhere in the UK, but in expensive central London it's a good choice for those of us without deep pockets. sheeper370 Posted September 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2013 "The City" Be aware that the phrase "The City" could refer to the City of Westminster (around the Houses of Parliament) or the City of London which is the old central business district some miles away to the east of St Paul's Cathedral. Cotswold Eagle Posted September 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2013 "The City" Be aware that the phrase "The City" could refer to the City of Westminster (around the Houses of Parliament) or the City of London which is the old central business district some miles away to the east of St Paul's Cathedral. I lived and worked in and around Westminster and the City of London for 20+ years and I have never heard "the City" mean anything other than the City of London or (with a small 'c') London as a whole, never Westminster. The modern City of Westminster (a 1960s creation) covers much more than the district of Westminster, taking in most of the West End, of course.
