Rare jpalbny Posted September 25, 2013 #27 Share Posted September 25, 2013 Here are the restrictions that my TA found out from AMEX, when we were considering the Platinum card a few months ago. We ended up getting it because we were able to get the Platinum privileges applied to pre-existing bookings... Restrictions •Three-stateroom limit per sailing, per eligible card member • Centurion or Platinum Cardmember must be traveling• Deposit and final payment must be made with an American Express Card in the Platinum or Centurion Cardmember's name (Platinum/Centurion Card is strongly preferred)• Shipboard credit cannot be used in the casino or for payment of gratuities. Unused portion of credit is non-refundable and is not redeemable for cash.• CPP benefits apply to one segment only on back-to-back and multi-segment itineraries (unless otherwise indicated) We've done this three ways now: 1. Booked our upcoming Oct 2013 cruise while onboard the Explorer 2 years ago. We had made the deposit with a co-branded AMEX card (BOA Accolades), and made the final payment with AMEX Platinum. Had Platinum privileges applied to the booking once final payment made - which we were able to do only because the deposit had been with another AMEX. 2. Converted an open booking to an August 2014 sailing on Silver Cloud. Open booking deposit was made with BOA AMEX, remaining deposit made with AMEX Platinum. Final payment will be made with AMEX Platinum. 3. (Their preferred way). Made deposit for Oct 2014 Cloud sailing with AMEX Platinum. Will pay balance with same card. In no case did we go through AMEX travel, only through SS and our TA. We'll find out in a few weeks how/if it actually works, but our confirmation from SS does list AMEXPLT under amenities... Paulchili Posted September 25, 2013 #28 Share Posted September 25, 2013 JP, There are further restriction as well, though not applicable here. For example, with Princess one must book mini suite or higher to receive this benefit, as we found out in the past to our surprise (and disappointment). Rare jpalbny Posted September 25, 2013 #29 Share Posted September 25, 2013 Thanks, Paul. I just realized that this is the Oceania board - and our upcoming cruises are all with SS... :o So some of the specifics may not apply to O.
wripro Posted September 26, 2013 #30 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Each cruise line has different benefits. But you definitely do NOT have to book with Amex to get the benefit.
