Sea B's Posted October 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Help! I'm taking my sister on this cruise and she' s in a wheelchair and on oxygen. We're having trouble knowing what to do about the oxygen. How does one go about taking oxygen on board? oldmedic Posted October 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2013 contact special needs department at the cruise lines... one may take as much o2 as needed, but can only have one bottle at a time(in the room)... when one is empty, go to guest services and trade the empty one in for a full one... we had to fill out a special form on Carnival
CruiserBruce Posted October 5, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Agree. Contact the cruise line. That way you will get the official policy and procedure. Best to get the info straight from the horse's mouth.
kcwingwalker Posted October 5, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2013 It's also a good idea to have a letter from your sister's physician stating that she is cleared for travel and outlining her condition. Should she require medical treatment onboard this can be a great help to the ship's physician. Because of the letter we carried about my husband's condition the ship's medical staff was able to handle the situation. She even called my husband's physician. When a ship's medical staff has concerns the likelihood of being put off the ship for medical treatment greatly increases.
kitty9 Posted October 5, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2013 If you don't want the hassle of lugging the canisters yourself, you can contact companies like CareVacations or Special Needs At Sea and they will deliver the canisters to the ship and remove them st the end of your cruise.
